WWB - yes the Kirsty McColl one is a fab title.

Margaret on the Guillotine by Morrissey

Kewcumber Sun 01-Jul-07 22:01:32

OK I think "I love you because (you look like Jim reeves)" might beat mine.

CatIsSleepy Sun 01-Jul-07 23:13:30

"99% of Gargoyles Look Like Bob Todd" by Half Man Half Biscuit.
(Bob Todd for any youngsters out there was a grey-haired, bulbous-eyed guy in Benny Hill's TV show).

CatIsSleepy Sun 01-Jul-07 23:23:36

oops was forgetting 'Some girls are bigger than others' by the Smiths. another good 'un.

UnquietDad Sun 01-Jul-07 23:44:20

Oh yes, HMHB have some corkers. "Outbreak of Vitus Gerulaitis", "Dead Men Don't Need Season Tickets, "The Light at the End of the Tunnel (is the Light of an Oncoming Train)"... And "Trouble Over Bridgewater" as an album title!

And don't forget the Pet Shop Boys. "You Only Tell me You Love Me When You're Drunk" and "I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing".

mummytosteven Sun 01-Jul-07 23:46:25

"Milkman of Human Kindness" by Billy Bragg.

mummytosteven Sun 01-Jul-07 23:46:47

Or Elvis Costello "What's so funny about peace, love and understanding"

CatIsSleepy Sun 01-Jul-07 23:49:07

Work is a 4 letter word, the smiths...

Ellbell Mon 02-Jul-07 00:06:15

How about 'There ain't half been some clever bastards' by Ian Dury and the Blockheads?

I also like 'There's a guy works down the chip-shop swears he's Elvis' by Kirsty McColl.

ghosty Mon 02-Jul-07 01:30:52

My BIL is in a Skiffle band. It is brilliant - they play at festivals and that sort of thing.
Years ago (before he met my sister) he wrote a song called "I'd Rather Go To Hell Than Spend Eternity With You"
I think that is a storming title ...
He wanted to play it at their wedding pmsl
She wouldn't let him [disappointed]

Califrau Mon 02-Jul-07 01:55:23

In these shoes? - Kirsty McColl

Califrau Mon 02-Jul-07 01:58:37

MrsJohnCusack Mon 02-Jul-07 02:35:47

ooooooh califrau was going to post the lyrics from 'In these shoes' in the favourite lyrics threads but never got round to it

Califrau Mon 02-Jul-07 03:02:50

So I'm sitting in a bar in Guadalajarra, in walks a man with a far away look in his eyes..."

Bloody LOVE that woman. Waste of a great lyricist and wonderful song writer.

MrsJohnCusack Mon 02-Jul-07 06:17:49

she was a GENIUS
have just been youtubing her - loads of good stuff
(made myself tearful watching Fairytale of New York though)

Kewcumber Mon 02-Jul-07 17:14:21

I saw her at break for the border in the basement in a rare later concert.

Califrau Mon 02-Jul-07 17:48:06

Kewcumber Mon 02-Jul-07 23:08:47

she was excellent and the venue was so small that I could almost touch her.

MrsJohnCusack Tue 03-Jul-07 02:37:11

consumed with

although I did see her at a festival in Ireland in 1992
she was so fab
and she came on to do 'Welcome to the Cheap Seats' with the Wonder Stuff too

Ellbell Tue 03-Jul-07 20:59:01

Can I just add a few s?

Didn't know 'In these shoes?', but have just downloaded it onto my iPod. Brilliant! Best 79p I've spent all week!

Ellbell Tue 03-Jul-07 22:39:36

Ooh, that's dd1's favourite. (I have 'Kite' on a permanent loop!) She hears about 4 notes and goes... 'Oh, mummy, this is the one where she doesn't want him to come the cowboy'! She is 7!

Kewcumber Wed 04-Jul-07 12:17:11

..."don't come the cowboy with me sonny Jim" - how could I have forgotten that song? How how how? Favorite song to be sung at full volume in the car.
