It will get better - it just it takes time, right?

Just having a bit of a bad day, today, and feeling quite despondent.

We ended up three to four years ago with a lot of debt - around 20k in all, due to job loss, a new place which we then couldn't afford, a run of bad luck/circumstances; nothing particularly original.

After a shaky start, we knuckled down and have been working very hard to reduce our debt. We've been doing alright, but this month, I've just been hit with large, unexpected, out of the blue expenses, and I just feel so down. It also meant talking to people about it and trying to negotiate payment and I hate that!

Two steps forward and one step back.

We're also trying to renegotiate the mortgage and I have a feeling that is not going to be accepted, either.

It is just time, isn't it? And keeping at it.

And it is better than before. It's just it's going to be a while before it is all paid off and it feels further away today, even though it is closer ...

I think money worries are one of the top things to stress you out. So how you are feeling is perfectly normal, even if not nice. It sounds like you know what has happened and are trying to deal with it which is a lot more than some people with debt do as it can be easier to try and pretend the problem isn't there. It sounds like you are fully facing upto everything and doing all you can so you should be proud of yourself - small comfort though that may be. I don't really have anything constructive to say other than it sounds like you are very capable and will get there in the end. If all else fails post an ad in Private Eye with your account details and I gather the results can be quite surprising grin.

Oh, thank you for saying that - I am trying to face up to stuff. I'm not good with money and I suppose the one good thing that has come out of all of this is that I have learned to open the bloody envelope, as opposed to sticking it in a drawer and going lalalala... smile

I've always wondered if anyone answers those ads - I'll keep that idea in my back pocket along with the lottery ticket grin Although, apparently, depending on my numbers coming up is not a responsible budget plan? Nonsense, I say.
