I'm going to try and not spend any extra for 1 month - is it possible?

When I say extra, I mean like no books from Amazon or a pen or some clothes that might come in handy for one of the children etc etc. Skint this month after having bought school uniforms/new PE kits/unexpected children's trips away.

I seem to fritter away the cash on bits of stuff I don't even need that much so for one month (from today) I will only buy weekly shop and petrol.

Anyone else like frittering away the dosh and want to join me in not doing so?

I just stopped myself from buying a copy of the FAST diet (5 to 2) as I don't need it, ...It's going to be a long month!!

Well Done on your resolution!
Last March DH and I were in a house we hated and I wanted to start saving for a deposit and we did what you're doing now. I promise once you start it won't be difficult. Can you get the book from the library? (Check if your library has ebooks and Emagazines too)

What got me through the first couple of months (when I had to 'train' myself) was thinking how many hours I worked for that item. If you've read Your Money Or Your Life it explains it better, but pretty much add up all hours you/DH even think about, travel and work then divide what you earn and treat that as your wage.....it stopped me spending fast!

Good luck! I am sure you will do it. Your willpower will get stronger and you will feel proud of yourself at the end of the month!
If you feel tempted to spend tell us on here and give us a reason why you must not buy whatever is tempting you!

Do you have a kindle or if you have a smart phone you can download a kindle app. There are lots of free books on Kindle. Not all of them are great but some are. I just finished reading the first 3 books of The Girl in the Box and loved it. I'd never have read it if it wasn't free Grin

Also go through your cupboards and drawers and resolve to use up all those bottles of shampoo etc. that you have hanging around (or do if you're anything like me

if you need a pen pop into one of the big bank branches and pocket a couple they nearly always have dispensers with them in

Thanks for the tips - might try The Girl in the Box - I'm just finishing the second of 2 books I got from the library today.

Saved £20 off shopping bill by not buying loads of snacks/sweet stuff/items we don't need this week.
