Aldi comparison!

I went to Aldi yesterday and I spent £56.81

When I got home I went on //www.mysupermarket.com. Not sure if you are familiar with this site. It's for online shopping at Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys etc. you enter all your items then you can see what it would cost at each shop.

So, I entered every item that I had bought at Aldi and this was the result:

Aldi £56.81
Sainsburys £78.41
Asda. £84.09
Tesco. £86.91
I was very surprised that Asda was so high and that Sainsburys was so low Shock

Thanks mrs, you have saved me a job. I was going to do that even though have been shopping at Aldi for ages - mainly because I prefer their quality but am always curious as to how I manage to fill my trolley for £60.
I just wish they would stop discontinuing the best products which tend to be their more expensive things like beef wellington and giant king prawns.
Their 39p veg offers though are brill!

yes, the 39p veg is brilliant, I kept showing my husband and saying can you believe this was only 39p. One of the items was a very big bit of broccoli!

People keep banging on to me about Sainsburys been cheap but every time I've shopped there I'd say I spend 20% extra on what I normally do.

I usually shop at Morrisons now.

I know someone who shops at sainsbos and is astonished every week at how much it is.

When I suggest shopping elsewhere it doesnt go down well, clearly only sainsbos do edible food.

I hate supermarket snobbery, I mean, get over yourself! Angry I'm thinking of certain people I know - smacks of insecurity. I'm happy to go to budget shops and have more money in my pocket.

I buy the majority of food from Lidl and Aldi. I only go to Sainsbury's to get particular items that I like and that are cheap. I wouldn't buy all my groceries there!

i actually find ocado the cheapest place to shop for us (especially as i have a free delivery pass, (thanks groupon) so dont pay for delivery, and i dont have a half hour drive (petrol) to the "local" supermarkets)

although there are a few products that i try to buy in either sainsburys (basics) or aldi instead.
(i find tomato products / toiletries / cleaning products expensive with ocado so i buy them else where)

It's all part of the fun, it's not as fun if you dont know how much your saving over a year.

Cheeky - some of their stuff is seasonal so the beef Wellington will no doubt be back come November with their luxury Christmas range and again at Easter.

I'm starting to realise you need to stock up on certain things when they're in. DH loves their big jars of boiled sweets (available last three /four years as part of Christmas range). So much so I have a collection of empty jars.

Oooh I haven't done this for ages! It's good to do now and again but you have to add the own brand things to the supermarket 'trolly' on mysupermarket for it to really compare.

I am heavily pregnant and found doing in store big shops too much from about 3 weeks ago so have missed Aldi and gone online - have been using first timer vouchers though!

Aldi £51.28

Tesco £78.54
Asda £83.12
Sainsburys £83.62
Ocado £89.76
Waitrose £97.53

I cannot believe how much all my stuff would have cost at Waitrose. Granted,I had to enter some branded products as they were a closer match to the Aldi products I brought, but even so Shock

I love Aldi, I also really like their shop assistants, so much friendlier than other supermarkets.

Wait wait, can you get aldi online?

Suprised about sainsburys though.

I bloody love lidls, but I don't have an aldi near me. Their cooked meats are so cheap!

We used to live down the road from a Safeway (remember them?). Then Waitrose took over, and our shopping bill doubled. Fortunately, Aldi moved into the town a couple of months later, I heart Aldi (and Lidl while we're at it).

Love Aldi and Lidl, but I also like to do food shopping using a credit card and they don't accept them. Grrr. I wouldn't mind paying a fee at the till like you have to in Ikea.

Report
Lovesoftplay · 28/09/2012 14:32

Aldi have always accepted my credit card. I always buy my shopping with it, then pay it off at the end of the month.

Report
nannyl · 28/09/2012 14:48

i think only aldi in wales (or is it scotland) accept credit cards

mine doesnt either.... their policy is on their website, and most aldi's dont take credit cards, only debit. (very annoying!)
