Anyone with experience of writing submission letters?

I blog about writing children's books and just wrote some query letter tips from my time as a children's commissioning editor here and you'll find a great blog post by a children's literary agent here

you just need to sound professional and showcase good writing, like you would in any business letter, nothing quirky needed!

I finished a picture book a while ago, but am only just plucking up the courage to submit it to some agents.
I have written a submission letter to accompany it, but have no idea whether or not it is appropriate.
Would anyone with experience in such matters be prepared to help me?
