Is it ok to get a cheap mattress for a 2yr old?

My DS will be going into a regualr single bed soon and as we are cutting back at the moment, I am hoping to get a cheap mattress for him - is this ok?

Will it damage his back or anything?

I remember when we bought his cot we were advised to go for the best mattress possible (which we did) so is this the same for beds?

That JL matress really is not nice. You can feel all of the springs poking through! I bought the Megan one, it's £100 and my girls love it!

If you're spending real money then make sure you buy the very biggest and best waterproof bed protectors you can - two of them for when one's in the wash - because presumably you have years of toilet training "incidents" ahead. I got a really good cheap mattress from Ikea, but I think their sizes are unique to them?

Mine had IKEA foam mattresses when they were little - when they're not v heavy they don't need sophisticated support. However, you will have ot replace them after a few years.

My sister bought her 2 year old a mattress for her bed recently and was told it is silly to spend out on a mattress for a small child. Although they may feel uncomfortable for you to lie on they will be fine for the child because they are obviously nowhere near as heavy. Hope that helps.
