Bedside crib with side that goes up and down while attached to bed ?!?!

Quite like the idea of a side-by-side crib but totally confused about the safety aspect. You don't want to leave baby unattended with side down, but they all seem to involve a HUGE faff to get the side up and down while they're attached to bed. I'm also a very fidgety sleeper and am worried about throwing duvet onto baby, or flailing my arm out or something.

So I want a bedside crib where I can raise the side while I'm asleep / nip to loo etc, but lower it quickly in order to reach out to baby.

So far the only way to do this seems to be to not have the crib secured to the bed. This would obviously mean having the side up nearly all the time for safety, which is fine for the above reasons BUT means that when I do lower the side I wouldn't be able to move baby over to me for feeding without getting up. Only a crib that attaches to the side of the bed and makes a continuous surface with my bed would allow me to do that. Hence the dilemma.

Any suggestions? It seems the Brio would have done this but it long discontinued.

we had one like this though not this brand. 2 slight modifications - bought some webbing straps from a camping shop to secure it firmly to the side of the bed in such a way as to allow the side to still raise and lower without moving the crib. Also cut up an old crib mattress (and sewed it into half a pillow case) to make along thin "bolster" to fill the 1.5inch gap between the crib matress and the adult matress.

The bednest is really good for putting side up and down whilst still attached. I've loved it, really good size and easy to attach to the bed. they have a really good discount on their hiring offer at the moment, think it's around 25% off - we paid £109 for 7 months.

Yes, the bednest does this. The fabric side makes a sort of bridge from the cot mattress to hours when it's down. And pops up really easily.

I'm using the bednest with 12 week old dd, I think it's fantastic and the bed side just goes up and down without any problem.

The bednest is out for safety reasons after the tragic death earlier this year. The nct withdrew it from sale because of coroner's concerns.

Did you read the coroners report on the bednest?

The bednest was in too high a degree slope, the side was half up and the baby was sleeping on her front which allowed her to lift her head onto the side. After reading this I was satisfied that used correctly it is safe.

I wouldn't use the bednest with baby sleeping on her front and I don't use the half up option.

I agree with Strawberry, you need to read the report findings. The parents were unfortunately not using the bednest safely. I think they bought it second hand so didn't have the instructions.

I've got a snuzpod and have been testing it out and zipping it up and down while attached is easy (had same concerns as you)

Also its beautiful and I like the bassinet feature for taking it round the house

Am also interested in the Snuzpod or next2me - how long would you say before baby outgrows it though?
