Hi, I bought a preloved Miyo hammock for my newborn (first baby). I had planned to buy a new mattress as I understand you're not meant to reuse mattresses to reduce the risk of SIDS. However the company (from NZ) no longer stocks in the UK. I've since read that you don't necessarily need to buy new mattresses every time now, just make sure that they are clean.
So I'm wondering whether it's best to hand-wash the preloved mattress I've been given, or to buy a new mattress from a different company, although the hammock labels tells me that only the specified mattress should be used.
The mattress in question is a soft mattress, like a duvet really, it says on the label that it is made of cotton/ polyfibre. The hammock and mattress curve around the baby, so they are not lying on a firm surface.
I'm just nervous as it's for my newborn, and my first baby, so I'm going to be pretty anxious about her.
Please do let me know your advice.
