Hi,

Sorry if this has been done. Just trying to do a bit of research into Moses baskets. Could you say how old your child was when you stopped using the basket and their size eg. Whether they were longer than average, chunky or petite :)

Thanks v much

Hi, for me it wasn't that they outgrew it more that they were moving around in it and it became unsafe. They needed something with higher sides so switched to cotbed.

A about 4 m my DD had rolled into her stomach in it so went into her cot . At similar age it was too small for my DS . Both were average hight .

Height

Inclusionist · 08/04/2013 10:59

DS never fitted in his. It was 60cm and he was 59cm at birth.

LadyInPink · 08/04/2013 11:01

Stopped using at 4mths - DD petite.

Giant babies, Moses basket too small from birth Grin

Myliferocks · 08/04/2013 11:06

DC1 was in one until 10 weeks.
DC2,3,4 and 5 went straight into a cot that the base could be at two heights. When they first went in it we had it at the higher of the two heights. Iyswim.

We stopped using by 12 wks. DS would fling his arms out, hit the sides and wake himself up. Crib was bigger but similar problem by 16 wks.

Wow these are pretty early. Seems such a waste of money. It's a shame I can't do over night sleeping in the bcjm carry cot!

I've heard more 5/6 months, glad people are sharing.

We never had one, nor a baby bath waste of money in my opinion.

DTDs had a Moses basket each, given secondhand by friends. Both grew at a similar rate, both outgrew at about 5mnths, but they were quite small.

DD3 at 14wks.

DS at 5mnths. Again, quite, but not unusually or anything, medium small.

skratta · 08/04/2013 12:43

Should add, DD3 was quite a big baby but once again, on the smaller scale of big.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/04/2013 12:46

About 12 weeks for both ds's. then they went into a crib in our room until nearly 7 months and then finally made it not their own cots in their own rooms!

I wouldn't have bothered with the Moses basket, especially as our carrycot was suitable for overnight sleeping but I was given a lovely one.

nancerama · 08/04/2013 13:12

DS moved into his cot at 16 weeks. He probably grew out of it 3 or 4 weeks earlier, but there was no room for his cot in our room and I wanted to keep him with us for as long as possible. He kept bashing the sides and waking himself and us up with the clattering.

He was a big baby - 9lb 3oz at birth and in 3-6 month clothes at 6 weeks.

Caitycat · 08/04/2013 13:18

I used mine until dd was six months, we were having major renovations and didn't have a cot til then, she filled it but was quite happy and slept well. She is an average size (45th percentile).

13weeks but he's long ...
