Mattress for single bed

Hi,

We're about to move DS into a single bed but we need to get him a new mattress. I've read lots of conflicting advice about what is best and how much you should spend and feel none the wiser! It seems a foam mattress is not recommended, some say it has to be pocket sprung but others say that's a waste of money on a children's mattress

Can anyone recommend a mattress or offer advice on what type to get? Budget approx £100 but i want to make sure i get something comfy and supportive so if it costs more, it does. I have seen a lot of recommendations for Ikea ones. Anyone got experience of them?

I think ikea do funny sizes. argos half price mattress, half price too but a bit dearer
