Hi. I have bought a moses basket which has a solid foam mattress pad and I'm wondering if I should replace it with a vented one? Any suggestions or am I being too cautious? Thanks.

I thought vented ones were a bad idea? Something to do with the holes being breeding grounds for bacteria? I think fSIDS recommend solid mattresses now?

I'll have a look for something more concerte than hearsay...

Details from the fSID website says:

"What kind of mattress should I use?
It is very important that your baby?s mattress is kept clean and dry. Ideally you should buy a new mattress for each new baby. If you are not able to do this, use the one you have, as long as it was made with a completely waterproof cover and has no tears, cracks or holes.
Clean and dry it thoroughly.
Check that the mattress is in good condition; is firm, not soft; fits the cot without any gaps; and doesn?t sag.
Never sleep your baby on a pillow, cushion, bean bag or waterbed."

No holes would mean not vented I think.

Interesting, when I went to replace the old solid foam one 6m ago, Mothercare and other similar stores seemed only stock to 'air-flow' ones.
