Cot mattress' - help?!

I have started to look into what cot mattress to go for and am rather overwhelmed with the choice! Foam, sprung, coir, wool, bamboo, organic?????

Does anyone know the benefits between all these different types of mattress materials? Obviously the price goes up from a basic foam mattress to organic natural fibres. How much is worth spending? I want to minimise the risk of cot death but don't want to waste money unnecessarily.

Any experiences or advice would be great. Thanks Smile

they all conform to safety standards, so if you get a cheap basic foam one, it will be absolutely fine.

I think you start to pay a it more when the materials are better quality etc. If you or your DH have allergies, it might be an idea to get a natural fibre one as they are better for allergy sufferers, and your baby may have allergies.

We got a basic £25 one from Mothercare, we air it once a week and turn it every 2 weeks. It is perfectly adequate. We laid an organic sheepskin over the top and DS sleep on that from 6-15months.

My friend bought an expensive coir one, it got ruined the first vomiting bug her DD had. Very difficult to clean.
