Preparing myself as I know af is on her way so want to give next cycle a really good shot (will be cycle #4 ttc baby #1).
Any advice appreciated smile

dietcoketime69 Mon 24-Mar-14 09:56:38

Oooooh good thread newly mrs, I was about to come on and ask a similar think since af has decided to raise her ugly head early this month so I'm out in march! I'm thinking of giving in to some smiley faced opks, what are your thoughts? Last month I only noticed one blob of ewcm so was thinking of getting some of that special cough syrup that's meant to increase your amounts - not sure of the name though!

MelMc73 Mon 24-Mar-14 09:59:54

Hi there...I'm just coming to end of my first cycle.....AF due next weekend. I've never TTC before...my DS was an accident lol. DH and I have decided rather late in life (I'm 41 and he's 43!) to TTC as we don't have children together. We've decided to take a relaxed approach and just DTD as much as possible!! I read on NHS website that you should DTD every couple of days and then there will always be some little swimmers in there for when you do ovulate. My cycle is still all over the place as I came off the pill in December.....we will see what happens. DH is convinced that I will get a BFP next weekend but I have tried to tell him it is unlikely to be that lucky after the first month of trying at our age lol. I have been guilty of this "symptom spotting" though!

NewlymrsB Mon 24-Mar-14 10:04:41

Oooh what is this cough medicine?

Anything is worth a try! I might try opk's again next cycle!

Inshock73 Mon 24-Mar-14 10:13:06

Good thread! smile okay here goes with my little bits of advice.... reduce (or cut out altogether if you can) alcohol and caffeine, so so hard to do but it's a fertility consultant's recommendation, take a prenatal supplement, I'm normally anti vitamin pills but I'm taking 'Trying for a baby', I'm also using Clearblue's advanced digital opk and finding it totally reliable, I know some people prefer not to use opk but I've been with DP for 5 years so dtd everyday is a bit unrealistic for us ;) however I was told every other day is good enough.

Diet tell me more about the cough syrup, I haven't tried that yet.

Mel come and join us on the Old birds coop thread, there's a few of us 'older' ladies on there in the tww and pretending were not symptom spotting smile

NewlymrsB Mon 24-Mar-14 10:23:31

Thanks for the info will look into vitamins at shopping today!

Lunawolf Mon 24-Mar-14 11:50:29

Hi all! Great thread smile

TTC cycle #12 for DC2. Did internet cheapy test on Fri and was BFN. Waiting for AF now so can get on with #13.

As it's been a year now I'm going to approach subject of visiting the docs with DH to get the ball rolling with tests etc.

I'm 29 and DH is 48. DD1 is now 8 so it's been a while since I was last pg.

Fingers crossed for us all getting that BFP in April! grin

Inshock73 Mon 24-Mar-14 12:00:40

Just thought of something else! smile fertility consultant said if struggling to conceive you should be on a high protein diet, so eggs for breakfast, lots of chicken/fish and vegetables for lunch/dinner. Apparently sugar sends your blood sugar all over the place and the insulin you release is counterproductive to conceiving. I don't know about anyone else but blimey I never realised ttc required so much planning.

Inshock73 Mon 24-Mar-14 12:02:04

I'm with you Luna let's hope all this advice we're sharing gets us all a BFP next month! smile

NewlymrsB Mon 24-Mar-14 15:32:46

Thanks everyone I've been and got vitamins and nights try the cough medicine thing too!

NewlymrsB Mon 24-Mar-14 19:48:14

Anymore tips??

threepiecesuite Mon 24-Mar-14 19:56:55

Inshock, I'm finding your tips really insightful- thank you. I'm on my 25th cycle of ttc#2.
I do eat too much sugar and not enough protein. Need to change that.

NewlymrsB Mon 24-Mar-14 19:59:30

Threepiecesuite I agree but all the foods that contain the sugar are the foods I love!

alita7 Mon 24-Mar-14 20:13:54

pressed! I got a bit desperate after 5 months and super googled, everyone who reviewed it said they got pregnant 1st month of using it and guess what so did I!! I'm now 7weeks 4 days. It's a special lubricant that helps make you a good environment for conceiving as it's perfect for sperm to swim in smile obviously It only helps if you ovulate and have a uterus that is easy to implant in - it won't solve problems like pcos, endo, blocked tubes or scaring.

cough mixture with guanifenisin (query spelling) in Is supposed to help your mucus to be the right consistency for swimming sperm as well. It usually says on the front of the bottle as it's the main ingredient.
It was also the first month I ovulation tests so I think that really helped smile

also as an extra precaution we stopped having sex at about 4dpo just in case smile

good luck!

alita7 Mon 24-Mar-14 20:14:49

that's preseed not pressed... I autocorrected that about 10 times -.-

ImBrian Mon 24-Mar-14 22:13:52

I've got pregnant last month (chemical) and then straight away this month using cheap opks off eBay. Had sex every now and then till I got a positive opk and then Dtd on the night of the positive. When I was ttc my 2nd dc it took 4 months when I went for the every other night routine.
I've also heard evening primrose oil from cd1 till ov can help with ewcm and something about pineapple for implantation. Fingers crossed for you.

mrshjb Tue 25-Mar-14 06:55:22

Just marking my place to read all the tips smile

Inshock73 Tue 25-Mar-14 07:58:08

Thanks Threepiece , Just thought of something else which might also interest you NewlyMrsB, consultant also said it's important to get at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day but fruit should only be eaten with a meal, so for instance as dessert because of the natural sugars which also makes your body realise more insulin. I know this diet sounds quite restrictive but I work with a lady who suffers with recurrent mc's and she was given the same advice from a fertility specialist. I love all things sweet so for me to cut back is so hard but it's got to be a worth a try.

NewlymrsB Tue 25-Mar-14 08:24:59

Thanks ladies !

I do love all my carbs which are sugar loaded but try to be healthy and have plenty of fruit and veg but maybe I should make an extra effort next cycle and see what happens.

I might try the preseed too!

I know it will only be cycle 4 but both my sisters got pregnant whilst on the pill so I'm thinking what's wrong with me?!!!

SoonToBeSix Tue 25-Mar-14 09:07:16

I second preseed

Inshock73 Tue 25-Mar-14 09:24:52

I've bought ConceivePlus, anyone tried that? I tried to buy Preseed from a company called FertilityStore online, unfortunately I've been done, they took payment from my card, Preseed never arrived and when I've emailed and called them both email address and number are no longer in use. Ladies DON'T use FertilityStore.co.uk!

NewlymrsB Tue 25-Mar-14 11:49:41

That's awful that people would take advantage of people trying to have a baby!
I've heard people say conceive plus is the same kind of thing. Going into boots today to see what things I can find haha

I've spouted this before on here so apologies to anyone who's read it on another thread.

Got pregnant last year on cycle 7 ttc#1 after trying pretty much everything mentioned here and giving it all up in favour of:

-sex every single day of cycle. Sometimes twice. It was pretty awful and neither of us wanted to do it again for about 8 weeks afterwards!!
-weekly fertility acupuncture
-assessment at Chinese medicine centre and an evil tasting regime of Chinese herbs three times a day, brewed into a tea.

NewlymrsB Tue 25-Mar-14 12:10:33

Was worth it in the end though hey!

mrshjb Tue 25-Mar-14 12:32:42

Hahaha laughed a lot about the 'evil tasting regime'!! What's acupuncture like? Is it painful? It might be my next port of call to try and regulate my cycles if reflexology doesn't work!

Thanks for the warning on fertility store, robbing b***tards!

SoonToBeSix Tue 25-Mar-14 15:27:33

You can buy preseed from amazon.

NewlymrsB Tue 25-Mar-14 15:31:58

Thanks I've just ordered conceive plus smile

Acupunture doesn't hurt at all really. It's more that it's just weird.

No joke re the evil taste. It was heinous. It made me gag after every swig. I used to drink a pint in three gulps as that was the least I could do it in, whilst holding my nose.

RPopz Tue 25-Mar-14 18:50:52

Ooh book marking this thread! Are you def out of the game Newly? X

NewlymrsB Tue 25-Mar-14 18:54:17

No not "officially" af due between tomorrow and Sunday but I feel like I do every month when af is brewing!

NewlymrsB Wed 26-Mar-14 07:51:12

Low temp this am so af must be around the corner!! sad sad

JonesSchool Wed 26-Mar-14 08:23:34

We are going for it this month!
We are currently
- Dtd every other day
- using OPK's
- drinking grapefruit juice before OV
- drinking pineapple juice after OV ( it should be whole pineapple and the core, it supposedly helps with implanting)
- taking pregnecare
- using conceive plus, will wait until closer to OV time as it is a bit slimey for everyday use

Dear me, not obsessed at all!

dietcoketime69 Wed 26-Mar-14 08:27:11

What cd are you on Jones? Will follow your tww with intrigue after all that effort!! I'm on cds so going to start with opks about cd9 and get some pineapple lol! What does the grapefruit do?

NewlymrsB Wed 26-Mar-14 08:27:19

What cd are you jones? May try your technique sounds very proactive!!

mrshjb Wed 26-Mar-14 09:07:41

I have started on the grapefruit this month. Does it have to be pink or is the golden one ok?!

NewlymrsB Wed 26-Mar-14 09:13:19

Think I will try the juices too! Anything has to be worth a shot right?!

MelMc73 Wed 26-Mar-14 09:39:07

I'm on the next cycle now too....AF arrived during the night 3 days earlier than predicted. 26 day cycle this time (41 last time!). Ordered Clearblue advanced digital thingy so will give that a go this time and see what happens with the smiley faces. Told hubby this morning and he was disappointed but we decided we would just have another month of fun and frolics trying again lol. Fingers crossed everyone!

NewlymrsB Wed 26-Mar-14 10:58:59

That's it just think of the positives, another month of lots of sexy time! Hehe

dickiedoodah Wed 26-Mar-14 19:10:02

Hi Ladies! I keep coming back and reading this thread so think it's time to join in!! Ttc baby 2, first one happened pretty quick, first time using CB OPK (expensive piece of kit but worth it). Hoping it works as well second time round. I'm currently taking folic acid and Vitamin D. Thinking about taking Evening Primrose Oil too. I'm planning on really going for it this cycle as DH and I will be apart for two months come the end of April! Looking forward to hearing how everyone gets on!

JonesSchool Wed 26-Mar-14 22:04:30

I don't know how to number my cycles, I had a MC at 5 weeks in Feb after 3 cycles. I hoped to be one of these super fertile people who get pregnant straight after, but wasn't to be. This is cycle number 2 after MC.
I find it helps to have something to focus on.
Gosh, I sound like a right nut job!
The lines on my OPK's are getting slightly darker so might be cracking open the concieve plus in the next few days.
What cycles are you on?

NewlymrsB Wed 26-Mar-14 22:07:18

I'm at the end of cycle 3 ttc #1 expecting af tomorrow as been eating like a horse today..usually my sign sad

JonesSchool Wed 26-Mar-14 22:07:21

mrshjb I'm not sure about colour of grapefruit, might have to find out x

Zermatt Thu 27-Mar-14 03:23:36

I have read on various forums;

Green Tea - can help increase EWCM and increase fertility
Maca Root - take as tablet or use powder in smoothies etc, great fertility booster
Grape fruit Juice
Pineapple Core
Orgasm after his
Refexology or Accupuncture.
Cut back/out booze and caffiene
Evening Primrose Oil

This month I am having starting to have regular reflexology, cutting out caffiene (apart from 2 small cups of green tea a day), no booze, taking EPO, Conception multi vitamins and will be following SMEP, oh and will give preseed a bash again, but last month it didnt give me the BFP I was hoping for smile

Zermatt Thu 27-Mar-14 03:47:35

sebsmummy1 Thu 27-Mar-14 09:50:36

The two times I have become pregnant we had sex twice on the day before peak/OV. So as I was so disappointed this cycle to get my BFN and really want to pull out the stops for a BFP in April, my partner is taking a days holiday on Friday so we can shag mid morning and tea time lol.

That is dedication wink

NewlymrsB Thu 27-Mar-14 10:15:31

Love that dedication! Haha. Yes I'm going for it for April!!

FoxHugs Thu 27-Mar-14 11:22:24

What I've learnt from our fertility treatment - ovulation kits are useless, because by the time you actually ovulate, your conception window may have closed. Took about two years to realise that!
When we were on meds - started trying from day 7-21. That's a lot of action, so can be tedious, but we tried to make it fun. We did it every day (try not to put pressure on yourself to conceive, just think - what will be will be, may as well enjoy this), but you can do it every other day and let the magic happen.
We conceived each time, but MC'ied (unfortunately), but that's a totally different story. Remaining very much hopeful and positive.
Good luck!

Zermatt Thu 27-Mar-14 14:38:43

Fox, can you explain a bit more about the opk's being useless?

sebsmummy1 Thu 27-Mar-14 15:52:15

Zermatt - re opks. The reason they say they are useless is because if you wait for your peak you may already have missed the boat re conception that month as you may ovulate soon afterwards and the sperm won't be there waiting.

Where opks can be very useful is they can tell you when you ovulate in your cycle and you can then plot your 'fertile window' and make sure you have sex at least 3 days before you ovulate, on the day you ovulate and just after for insurance.

It is best to temp alongside opks as you should get a temperature rise after OV when progesterone becomes the dominant hormone.

Zermatt Fri 28-Mar-14 01:40:37

Thanks Sebsmummy, I get it now, so as long as you dont just sit and wait for the positive opk until you dtd and instead use it as a guide to help predict when the fertile window begins and ends then they are useful? Last 2 cycles I got the + on CD13 and confirmed ov by temping on CD15, so if I dtd on days 16,15,14,13,12,11 this cycle I will hopefully be in with the best chance?

dietcoketime69 Fri 28-Mar-14 08:35:56

Wow zermatt that's certainly good going, when are you expecting bfp?
