Faint positive or am I imagining things?

Had an early miscarriage almost five weeks ago.

Been ttc since about a week after. No sign of AF. Some minor symptoms such as mild nausea, pmt like mood swings.

Poas tonight - a wee cheap test from super drug. In the result window there was one very clear line and one very very very faint pink line.

The remaining unused test has no lines visible - no matter how hard I look.

Could this be a positive or do some tests so this very faint line after use?

I had loads of bfns last time including a similar faint positive last time and took a while to get a clear result. Last time round I also felt more pg with lots of cramps and twinges but nothing this time!

fliss02 Tue 05-Nov-13 00:15:47

Hi kitkat, congratulations I hope! They say a line is a line however faint and its very, very uncommon to get a fake positive (whereas fake negatives are more likely). Personally I think this sounds very hopeful. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Will you do another test tomorrow?

kitkat321 Tue 05-Nov-13 10:04:32

POAS again this morning - thought that doing it first thing might give a clearer result but nope - still the same extremely faint line - maybe slightly clearer than yesterdays one.

Will wait until the weekend before taking another one - will just get one of the digital ones as at least they give you a straight answer!!

Feelingfatty Tue 05-Nov-13 10:59:30

I would ring docs, they will give you a blood test to check hcg levels are increasing. That way you will definitely know positive is a new pregnancy? Put your mind at rest? Xx

fliss02 Tue 05-Nov-13 12:25:16

Going to the doctors for a blood test is a very good idea. Doing a digital test is also a good idea. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I still think a line is a line though... X

Ladyboluna Tue 05-Nov-13 12:59:48

Just bear in mind that after a miscarriage you can still have traces of HCG in your urine for a few weeks afterwards. Good luck and hope it is a true positive.

kitkat321 Tue 05-Nov-13 15:47:39

Thanks all.

I don't want to waste the dr's time just now so will wait a few days and see how things go.

Just bear in mind that after a miscarriage you can still have traces of HCG in your urine for a few weeks afterwards. Good luck and hope it is a true positive.

Ladyboluna - I did a test a week after mc and it was negative.

My HCG levels were very low - 2 days after mc they were down at 6 from 37 so I don't think there will be any remaining.

KatAndKit Tue 05-Nov-13 15:52:10

Sounds like it must be a new pregnancy if you have had a negative. Hopefully if you test again in a few days the line will be darker.

Feelingfatty Tue 05-Nov-13 18:29:24

Sorry kit kat didn't realise you'd done a test previously! Then a lines a line and I'm sure all will be fine! Congrats!!

kitkat321 Wed 06-Nov-13 11:10:08

Fingers crossed.

I feel very nauseous again today - can't stop burping - I'm hoping this is a sign!

keepswimming1 Wed 06-Nov-13 11:18:37

Are you going to test again?

Good luck smile

MrsFlorrick Wed 06-Nov-13 11:27:52

Superdrug ones are v sensitive. I had a very faint positive at 6dpo with DS.

DH said I was imagining it. But the next day there was a stronger line and the faint line is now eating biscuits next to me.

With DD I had a very strong positive at 11dpo.

Have another go today if you don't want to bother the docs.

Fingers crossed for you grin

kitkat321 Wed 06-Nov-13 12:04:59

Really MrsFlorrick?- that's good to know.

With my mc I didn't get a positive until I was over a week late - I had loads of negatives.

It was one of the clear blue digital tests that finally gave me my positive so going to pick some up tonight and test again.

The frustrating thing is that because of the mc, I don't know when I ovulated but we started ttc a week after. If I get a bfn I'm going to invest in some of the ovulation testing kits.

Will update on results later!

Hi kitkat.....just wanted to wish you the best of luck, it's sounding promising! grin

kitkat321 Wed 06-Nov-13 19:46:38

So now I'm even more confused. Popped out to Asda and picked up a CB digital (the test that finally confirmed my last ill fated pregnancy after several negatives and the one the gave me a negative a few days post mc).

Also grabbed a pack of asda's own £1 dip test.

Tried them both. The CB one says not pregnant but the Asda one definitely has a faint pink link - I'd say it's even clearer than the ones I got on the superdrug tests (I've uploaded a picture to my profile - see what you think!)

Now either the cheapo Asda made in China one is more sensitive than the CB and I'm pregnant or still have hcg levels after mc 5 weeks ago or I am pg but not as far a long as I would expect (I'd guessed 3 weeks since conception based on a 2 week period post mc for ovulation to kick in again but that's all guess work).

So what do we think - is there definitely a line - or is this horrid cold making me hallucinate??

And if there is a line, what do I do now? Wait a few days and test again to be sure or phone Dr/EPU for an appointment (I've to get an 7 week scan if I conceive again due to the mc)

Luckystar1 Wed 06-Nov-13 19:53:09

I can see a line!!! You might want to get your bloods done just to make sure hcg is rising rather than falling. Seems unlikely it's remaining hcg, especially as even the most sensitive tests can only detect 10 and above! Oooooo fx for you and [whispers] congrats!!!!

jessieagain Wed 06-Nov-13 20:43:29

Yes that's a line! Congratulations smile

I agree about getting the bloodtest for confirmation. Good luck with the pregnancy!

superzero Wed 06-Nov-13 20:54:17

I can definitely see a line,congratulations.
I would wait a few days then see the GP .I'm sure if you do an early morning test in a few days and all is well you will get a brighter line like the control one.

kitkat321 Wed 06-Nov-13 20:58:38

Thanks all - good to know I'm not seeing things!

That's interesting Luckystar - I wasn't sure what the sensitivity levels were for these tests.

Will wait until the weekend and test again in the morning. It does worry me that I'm getting faint results again though as it was the same last time when I had a mc and I wonder if the low hormone levels were the cause.

Feel a bit bad for the amount of alcohol I drank last week too - although that was after a bfn so I though it was ok! Ooops!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Wed 06-Nov-13 21:08:00

Digital tests are rubbish. Not very sensitive and can be up to 10 days out either direction.
Poundshop cheapie are among the most sensitive.
If you had BFN since you MC then this is probably a new PG. As others have said, a blood test is the way to go. Either that or get some cheap tests and do one every other day and see if the lines get darker.
Tentative congratulations. x

BobaFetaCheese Wed 06-Nov-13 21:13:26

That's a line! Tentative Congratulations. x

I got pg just after a mc and the Dr didn't see the need to do bloods or an early scan (so I went for a private scan).

Two digi tests are cheaper on amazon, and waiting for the post should hopefully put you off doing anymore (says she who did a test everday for 14days!).

kitkat321 Wed 06-Nov-13 21:13:45

Thanks saggyoldclothcatpuss.

I'm now sitting on the sofa scared to move in case I mc again - that's if I'm even pg!!!

Fingers crossed for a clearer result by the weekend!

Ooh congratulations kitkat....have you not been tempted to poas today?smile

kitkat321 Thu 07-Nov-13 17:31:17

Just did one - bfn sad

kitkat321 Thu 07-Nov-13 17:37:44

I think perhaps my hormones are still playing up post mc.

Will do I've more tomorrow with fmu and if that's negative I'll just need to wait for AF and try again!

Feelingfatty Thu 07-Nov-13 18:58:57

Oh kit kat I really hope you are pregnant or that's just so cruel!!! Fingers crossed for tomorrow! Xx

kitkat321 Thu 07-Nov-13 19:02:56

Thanks. Did another at home and another bfn although urine was almost clear as I've drank tonnes of water. Will see what tomorrow brings!

Ah I'm sorry....it's so hard after a mc isn't it....i'm in the same situation.

Really hoping you get a stick bfp soon xx

stick? should say sticky! smile

Feelingfatty Thu 07-Nov-13 19:13:10

Definitely make next one fmu, fingers crossed!!!! Xx

grobagsforever Thu 07-Nov-13 19:19:38

What brand did you do today kitkat? Very best of luck to you.

kitkat321 Thu 07-Nov-13 20:01:18

I tried 2 from the £ shop - I never got positives with them in last pregnancy.

beatofthedrum Thu 07-Nov-13 20:06:16

Fingers crossed for you, there is definitely hope. I remember the feeling of so desperately wanting the line to be there. Very best of luck.

whereisthewitch Thu 07-Nov-13 20:38:52

I had this op...faint lines for about 3 days before the cbdsaidpregnant.
Currently 9 weeks...try again in a few days.

Feelingfatty Thu 07-Nov-13 23:08:18

I think there's still hope smile xx

kitkat321 Fri 08-Nov-13 07:48:18

2 fmu tests this morning - one from asda and one from the £ shop - both bfn so it looks like a no.

The asda one did have a slight line about an hour later when I checked it again but not the £ one and I suspect it's just an evap line.

Oh well - just need to keep ttc.

I'm actually finding this whole experience more upsetting than the mc.

Luckystar1 Fri 08-Nov-13 11:23:04

Oh KitKat, I'm sorry you're feeling down. I'm going through the same thing (I've actually poked my boobs so much to see if they're sore, that they're now sore!)

We must just believe it will happen. And it will. Do whatever you have to to remain sane.

Thinking of you and Fx. X

kitkat321 Fri 08-Nov-13 17:58:50

Thanks luckystar. Any symptoms I had (or imagined I had) seem to have vanished - just feeling a bit tired and emotional now.

Still no sign of AF - think I'll just assume the worst and wait it out.

Hope you get a more positive result! X

Luckystar1 Sun 10-Nov-13 21:54:01

Any sign of af??

I've done a billion tests (only a mild exaggeration), all bfn, af due on Wed, so think I'm out this month.

kitkat321 Sun 10-Nov-13 22:46:55

Still no sign - I'm so over it now! Hoping that by pretending not to care AF will make an appearance. Will test again later this week if still no sign!

Fingers crossed your next test is a bfp!!

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 07:22:04

I did another test this morning, bfn. I'm getting very upset as I have sore boobs (been getting gradually worse since sat week) and nausea, I really hope these aren't my new pms symptoms as I'll go crazy every blooming month!!

I'm trying to do the whole nonchalent routine.... I hope it's working enter for you than me!!

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 07:50:44

Oh you poor thing! I was really upset last week but seem to have perked up this week - I was a emotional wreck on Friday!

Still keeping fingers crossed for you xxx

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 08:30:49

And for you. I know deep down I'm out though, we had some 'performance' issues this month... Apparently waving on ov stick and shouting 'we need to Dtd now' is not a turn on... Who knew?! Haha!

Oooh luck star just stopped by to see if there was any news from kitkat and saw your last post!!!!

I have the same issues with dp!!!! And was just saying on another thread that he doesn't even like to know when I'm ov'ing!!!!

Makes it hard doesn't it! I have to try and get him in the moodwinkblush

Oh and hope you get your bfp soon smile

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 10:16:17

Hi Spinning! It's such a mare isn't it?! We missed my 2 most fertile days due to 'pressure'... I must admit I lost it on the 2nd day and started crying... I can advise that that is definitely NOT a turn on!!

Fx for you too!! When are you due??

Haha I've done the crying thing as well....not good!!!

Due to ov wed or thurs I think but already feeling stressed about dtd at the right time!!! If it was up to me I'd be doing it everyday....maybe ttwice grin

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 11:42:47

Ooo I'll keep my Fx for you!! Why is it that when you're trying not to get pregnant they're always ready... And just when they could come in useful, Nada!!!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Mon 11-Nov-13 11:52:15

Lucky if AF is overdue, you need to go to the GP and get a blood test. It will definitively pick up the PG hormone.
The performance issues when you are trying is quite common I think. DP had the same. I never told him when I ovulated, and showed the same interest in him when I wasn't. Its not easy for men, they do get a bit of stage fright!

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 12:38:21

I'm not due til Wed, so I'm fully expecting af then. My boobs are very sensitive, which was my first sign with my last (mc) pregnancy, but in a different place, so I just figure the good old mc has messed up my hormones beyond all recognition...

I know, next month I start cbfm so I'll have to muster my most frisky side!!!

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 15:28:54

I caved and bought more tests today - the first response ones just to see what's what.

Despite drinking about 5 large cups of tea today I decided to take the test and guest what - I got a BFP.

So either I am pregnant or my hormones are still high almost 6 weeks post mc.

Going to get a doctors appointment to see what he says.

BobaFetaCheese Mon 11-Nov-13 15:32:30

kitkat, what a roller-coaster you're on atm.
Hope the Dr gets you a blood test or a scan, fingers tightly crossed for the best news.

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 15:44:14

Thanks Bobafetacheese.

This was a much stronger positive than I've had previously which makes me wonder if it is a new pregnancy although it could be that this test is just more sensitive than the others I used.

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 15:49:15

Eeeeek get a pic up!!

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 15:56:26

Will try and put a pick up later - in work just now and will be hard to wangle it without getting some strange looks. It's currently hiding all wrapped up in my hand bag!!

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 16:08:32

I'm so excited for you!! I really really hope it's true for you!! X

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 16:14:32

Picture now on my profile.

Dr's booked for 9am tomorrow although I imagine I won't get results from him for a few days?

Better start taking folic acid again just in case - I'd stopped again last week.

RachelHRD Mon 11-Nov-13 16:21:43

My 6 year old faint positive is cuddled up next to me on the sofa!!!

Good luck xxx

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 16:22:39

Looks good to me!!! I would be freaking chuffed to see even a fraction of that line!!! Yippee! I'm so pleased for you!

The doc might want to take bloods 48 hours apart to detect the rise.

Everything crossed for you please keep us updated!!!

BobaFetaCheese Mon 11-Nov-13 16:52:49

That looks like a new pg line.
Can you afford/would you want to get a private scan done if your GP can't deliver results this week?

Keeping everything crossed for you still. X

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 17:01:07

I think it might be too early for a scan to show anything worth while?

EPU have advised me to phone them if I'm pregnant again and they will arrange a 7 week scan.

Wow kitkat that's a good line!!!

Really hope it's a new pg for you! Will keep fx for you smile

Are you about 6 weeks on from your mc kitkat? Only ask cause I had one recently and just wondering how soon it's possible to conceive again!

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 17:36:13

Mc will have been 6 weeks on Wednesday. It was a very early mc an I had very little bleeding and was ttc again 10 days post mc.

I heard chances of a successful pregnancy are better post mc so here's hoping!!

I have heard this as well, mine was also early so hopefully won't take too long to get a bfp againgrin

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 17:41:02

I tried desperately to conceive immediately post mc but mine was at 10 weeks and my hormone levels still showed bfp until I got my af... What a waste of energy!!

Massive congrats KitKat and fx for you spinning!!

Thanks Lucky, how awful having to wait for hormone levels to drop!
I did a test and got a bfn the day after bleeding stopped! Harsh but at least I knew I was ok to start again xx

Luckystar1 Mon 11-Nov-13 17:46:46

It was harrowing if I'm honest. Getting bfps knowing it's a lie is awful! But that's in the past!! Onwards and upwards!!!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Mon 11-Nov-13 19:55:52

I dont know if I've said this before, but for those ladies who have had A previous MC, the Posifrickentivity ttc after MC thread in conception is bloody marvellous. Theres another in Pregnancy for once you've got a BFP. They are wonderful, rolling threads that anyone can join at any time, and everyone knows exactly how everyone else is feeling. Do take a look. smile

kitkat321 Mon 11-Nov-13 21:30:35

I've just told DP and he's a bit shell shocked - should maybe have waited for the results first before spooking him!

kitkat321 Tue 12-Nov-13 09:38:05

Been to drs this morning and not really any clearer - he's adamant that its too long since last mc for the hormones to still be in my system - I challenged this and he laughed at me!

I've to hand in a fmu sample tomorrow morning for the surgery to test and have booked a mw appt for next week.

Also checked my bp and all ok.

Had some slight cramping this morning which has panicked me a bit - just scared now that I'll be unlucky and mc again!

Moffit Tue 12-Nov-13 23:59:32

Congratulations kitkat! Hope the test at the doctors and the early scan put your mind at rest. You will naturally be nervous about this pregnancy following your recent experience (I know I was). Good luck!

kitkat321 Wed 13-Nov-13 08:33:40

Thanks Moffit!

Still having some cramping/spotting - it subsided yesterday but is back again this morning so hoping some blood tests much help clarify whether or not hormone levels are rising or if I've been unlucky again!
