How accurate is First response (done early)?

I'm desperate to test! But really trying to hold off until Saturday when I'm due on.

I would hate for it to be negative now but still holdin out hope that it was just too early to tell and then having to wait a few more days.

What would you do?! I'm on the verge of running out the the chemist now!

Rockchick1984 Tue 18-Jun-13 09:09:30

Do you know when you ovulated? The further after ovulation you test, the more likely it is to be accurate. Personally I prefer to test early and get BFN but still have that excitement/nervousness about if it was just too early, I know other people who only test after AF is due because they can't stand seeing just one line.

sleepcrisis Tue 18-Jun-13 09:11:40

Thanks for reply. I ovulated last Saturday according to ov pains. And I'm pretty regular. So I'm 10dpo and due this Saturday.

Rockchick1984 Tue 18-Jun-13 09:23:05

I'd be tempted to buy one today and test with FMU tomorrow as that's when the hormones will be at their highest - just be aware that if its negative it could still be wrong! Superdrug pink line tests are a heck of a lot cheaper than FRER and just as accurate so maybe buy a twin pack of them, use one tomorrow and save the other one to use at the weekend?

sleepcrisis Tue 18-Jun-13 09:29:58

Thanks, will do that. No super drug here (not UK) but will get a double pack of FR.

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 09:36:28

Bizzarly I'm having the same internal debate! Ovulated 11 days ago so there is a chance an early test would pick it up. On the other hand, if it's negative I'm going to be 2 parts gutted to one part disbelieving!

blueamber Tue 18-Jun-13 09:38:20

The superdrug tests can be used 4 days before AF is due and I read they're better than the first response ones (and cheaper). But obviously the longer you wait the better, because early on you might get a false negative. At least if you wait longer you can be more certain of the result. Although it's really difficult to wait!

blueamber Tue 18-Jun-13 09:43:43

The lower the miu/L a test can detect, the better. The First response ones detect 12.5 miu/L, whilst the Superdrug ones are 10 miu/L.

MrsMargoLeadbetter Tue 18-Jun-13 09:46:05

I saw a faint line with a first response 10 days after ovulation.

Do it with first morning urine to increase the chances of seeing a positive.

Good luck!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 09:48:28

I've brought some first response tests ready to test Friday...I'm due on Monday. They say you can do it that early so just gonna go for it. I really hope I get a bfp this time...kind of convinced myself its my month going to be really gutted when as always it says bfn!! Good luck to you! What day are you going to test??

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 09:52:40

Sorry to be so negative but personally I wouldn't waste your money. My AF is due on Sunday (ish) and I will think about doing a Tesco test on Saturday. I won't be testing any earlier and First response etc are so expensive.
I drove myself crazy testing early on my last pg, I would get a bfn and convince myself it was too early or else spend a half an hour holding the test up to light etc blush
When I did eventually get a bfp it was only very very very light even at 12dpo.

Best of luck to you, that's just my opinion...

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 09:55:47

I'm planning to test first thing tomorrow morning. Driving myself crazy symptom spotting. I feel I have loads of symptoms but the reality is the only time I really pay attention to my body is a few days before my period! I probably always have a stuffy nose and feel a bit sick in the mornings!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:05:12

I know it's a waste of money. I did same thing first time with lo#1 and doing it this time as well...waste of money but literally can't stop myself!!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:05:45

Gatsby I know right it's so hard and you convince yourself you're difficult!!!

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 10:09:29

I know, it's addictive!! I used to buy internet strips in bulk and use something like 5 of them a day blush

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:10:36

Yeah I had the Internet cheapies but became obsessed!! So stopped using them! Find its easier to limit yourself with the more expensive ones!!

i tested on a sunday and my period was due on a friday - the line appeared nearly immediately.

test away if you cant wait! i didnt wait for morning pee either!

best of luck

blueamber Tue 18-Jun-13 10:20:23

I don't like the internet ones, they're supposed to be good, but I got a partial line with one while it should have been negative angry

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:21:53

Sorry I'm confused (doesn't take much!!) you were due on the Friday and you tested the Sunday before? Six days early? And it worked?? This is tempting me to do tomorrow!! ;)

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 10:24:44

blueamber - I am not using them this time. I often got lines too (colourless) after a few mins but it was torture trying to decide if there it was a coloured line or not.

Wow even First response doesn't claim to be 6 days early - it says 6 days before first day of missed period which is 5 days before your period is due. Fairydogmother, do you have a long leutal phase or something?

yip it was that early and i'm afraid i have no idea what a luteal phase is!

period was due 1 march and bfp on 24 march grin

i was too impatient to wait so i tested as it was killing me not knowing! i knew there was a chance i'd be wasting a test but i honestly didnt care!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:38:44

I just caved after seeing you got one 6 days early...bfn obviously!!! 5 pound wasted and still none the wiser and I know it's way to early! I'm so fed up with ttc and the 2ww!!

dont give up hope - i might have just been an oddity but i have all the dates recorded in my diary so v v sure they are correct!

it helped immensely that my period came on 1 feb as its easy to date things from the 1st!

fingers xd you get a successful test later in the week smile the wait is horrendous so i totally understand your impatience!

PS check the test in another 30 mins - ive heard of some people testing early and a v faint line appearing some time later when they were chucking the test in the bin!

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 10:42:45

Ahh nooo Bambi27, how long are you ttc? Don't give up, I really think it's too early, very unusual to get a bfp so early.

Lucky you Fairydogmother, you only had a one week wait lol.

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:49:40

Just did a very silly thing. Took a FR test 2 minutes ago and it came back positive. BUT I had a trigger shot 13 days ago and I'm not sure if this could give me a false positive! Damn you, early pregnancy tests!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:50:32

I shouldn't have tested as its before even the test says it will work!! Won't test now until Friday and too depressing! Eugh so fed up with ttc! Been 8 months now sad only took 2 months with #1 xx

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:54:15

Oh I have no idea! What did they say when they gave you the shot? Can it give false positives?

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 10:57:31

Sorry, I have no idea about the shot either. Can you google it for other stories??

Bambi, my no.2 took 12 months, I know how hard it is. No 1 happened quickly too so it is such a shock to the system. It WILL happen for you and as much as I HATE saying it you just have to be patient sad
Cycle 1 now for no.3 - never thought we'd be going for a third but here I am hmm

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 10:58:38

They didn't say anything about it at the hospital but I'm really new to the whole fertility assistance thing! Only had one round of clomid with a trigger shot to kick start ovulation. Looked online and there's a lot of conflicting information. Some people say it's out of your system after two or three days, others say two weeks!

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 11:01:22

Oh you poor thing gatsby79, was it a strong or a faint line? Wow I really hope it is a genuine positive.

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:04:06

Strong line! And it showed up immediately. I did a cheap Boots test on Sunday (I have no idea why, too early to prove anything) and it came back negative.

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:06:16

If it was negative Sunday and positive now I would say its a bfp?? No? I don't want to get your hopes up but sounds promising!! smile

And thanks I know I just need to be patient! Really hard! I'm always okay until it gets to end of the tww!!

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 11:06:23

I would be very hopeful if the boots test came up negative! Can you ring the clinic who treated you, they might know if it should be out of your system or not for sure?

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:08:00

I would second that! Ring up and see!!! X

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:17:10

Just gave the clinic a call and they said to be cautiously optimistic but to test again at the weekend! How will I manage to wait until then!?! I should never have tested this early!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:18:49

Oh that's an annoying answer!! It sounds like they think its a positive tho grin

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 11:21:02

Ah it seems like they are pretty certain it's a positive but can't commit to giving you that answer so are just being cautious.

Dare I say.... Congratulations???? grin

and I thought our 2ww's were hard hmm X

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:22:17

I agree I think they have to cover their back but seems positive

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:29:46

I'm obviously going to test again before the weekend! I couldn't even last until the day my period was due! I'll test tomorrow with a cheap Boots number - if it's only the trigger shot the tests should get progressively fainter. If I'm actually in the club they should stay strong.

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:30:29

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 11:36:45

I will!!! Keep us posted!! Want to be able to give a whole hearted congrats!! Xx

sleepcrisis Tue 18-Jun-13 11:42:01

Right, all you lot testing early has got me on edge. I'm off out to buy a test. Despite it being TOO EARLY!!! Will report back later.

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 12:02:48

How early are you?? I completely regret testing!! Try to wait smile xx

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 12:27:38

Fingers crossed for you both, keep us updated. smile

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 12:29:33

Thanks and you !!! I'm sure we will all get our bfp's soon!! Xx

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 12:32:02

Hope so, I promised myself I wouldn't get obsessed but it's slowly creeping in. It's impossible not to isn't it :-/

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 12:33:09

I managed 7 months of no opks and this is first month of using them. I feel it has made it worse but feel I need to do something as can't take many more months!!!

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 12:38:43

I'm only month 1 but I had to use them as cycles can be irregular. Didn't get a + til cd 18. Hopefully you won't be waiting much longer.

If it's any help when I finally did get pg on no.2 I really really enjoyed the pregnancy, I think nearly every day of it I was so grateful for being pregnant, I never complained once. The fact that I had to wait so long made having it extra special, not to mention when she arrived. grin
Stay positive xx

gatsby79 Tue 18-Jun-13 12:53:29

Just to update anyone who is interested, I just did a cheap Boots test and got a faint positive. It's the same kind of test I did on Sunday when I got a negative so it's looking hopeful!

2lilgirls Tue 18-Jun-13 12:56:08

Awh Congratulations gatsby79, you can finally believe it now. Enjoy the high xx

sleepcrisis Tue 18-Jun-13 13:20:26

I'm gutted! Stupidly did one and for a negative. I was so convinced! Well... I am still 5 days early and am having so many symptoms... Somehow I'm still convinced!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 13:27:53

Ah congrats!!! Yah!! Well done!! Enjoy it!

5 days early defo means you're not out!! I'm the same this month convinced!! Fingers crossed!! Not gonna test til fri now, 3 days b4 af due.

And thanks I defo think I will be so grateful and happy when we get pg!! Baby dust all round!!

Romann Tue 18-Jun-13 14:16:44

For what it's worth I really recommend not testing until AF is late. It's such a waste of money throwing away all those negative tests and I'm sure manufacturers have put them on the market to capitalise on our weak will during the 2ww. Don't let them get away with it!

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 14:19:46

I completely agree with you romann. It's a complete waste of time etc. however I just can't help myself sad

sleepcrisis Tue 18-Jun-13 15:26:42

Oh i Know... Feeling like such an idiot right now. I studied marketing! Ha. Just really really hate waiting, and am on my own with DS1 all day, just can't stop thinking about it!!

Bleeding gums are a sign of pg, right?

Bambi27 Tue 18-Jun-13 16:15:01

I think the being on our own with #1 really doesn't help to take your mind off it!!

And I've been very naughty just been and bought 4 super drug early tests as I know I will cave and do a test before Friday!!! Nightmare!! And not sure about gums! Probably!!

Bambi27 Thu 20-Jun-13 09:22:42

Bfn with first responses today so that's me out this month sad x

2lilgirls Thu 20-Jun-13 10:04:04

Awh no Bambi27. When is AF due?

I am 11dpo today. LAst time I was ttc I would have tested from 9dpo but haven't tested yet. I think I am just trying to avoid being a POAS addict this time, plus I can't bear the disappointment of seeing a bfn, for some reason I find it easier when AF just arrives.

gatsby79 any update? Are you still getting bfp's? x

2lilgirls Thu 20-Jun-13 10:06:48

sleepcrisis have you tested since? I think we are all on the same cycle days smile

gatsby79 Thu 20-Jun-13 10:54:18

Still testing positive 15 days after Ovidrel shot. Still a maybe. I'm going nuts waiting until Monday when I'll know for sure!

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 12:50:06

I have stupidly just tested again. Not checked it yet. I'm hoping that wasn'y another waste of £5!

Will let you know.

Sounding really positive for you Gatsby79! fingers crossed!

2lilgirls Thu 20-Jun-13 12:51:18

Fingers crossed sleepcrisis :-)

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 12:53:39

Well... there is a ver¥, very faint line. I would never even have seen it if it wasn't for comparing it to tuesday's test!

So does that count?!

argh now I'm even more unsure than I was before!!!

2lilgirls Thu 20-Jun-13 12:55:03

OMG! A line is a line!! Which brand is it?

MrsMargoLeadbetter Thu 20-Jun-13 12:56:45

A line is a line.

thanks Congrats!

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 12:58:57

It is First response early test.

But I'm really squinting to see this. I guarantee that when I show DH he'll say 'what line'

Maybe I should go out and get another one to be sure?! Digital?

we don't have a superdrug unfortunately...

2lilgirls Thu 20-Jun-13 13:03:23

Best thing to do would be not to drink anything for the next few hours and don't wee (sorry if TMI) so that your urine this evening would be equivalent to first morning urine sample and hcg would be easier to detect - test again then.

I've never seen any hint of a line on a FR that wasn't a bfp - always stark white background smile

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 13:06:19

So are FR the best ones? Should I buy the same? Or a selection?!

2lilgirls Thu 20-Jun-13 13:07:18

I think they are the most sensitive but open to correction on that.

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 13:08:29

Bambi27 - I thought you were due on Monday? So you're not out of the game yet!!

blueamber Thu 20-Jun-13 13:42:43

Does anyone have the first response? I am curious how sensitive they are as well, I can't find a definite answer online, but it should be on the box/in the manual. The most sensitive ones I have found are superdrug ones and online ones at 10 miu/L and I don't think the first response is any more sensitive than that, but I might be wrong.

gatsby79 Thu 20-Jun-13 14:39:27

Sleep crisis, they say any line is a real line no matter how faint. Obviously apart from my weird Ovidrel situation! Test again tonight without peeing for 3 hours or wait until morning but it looks good!

Bambi27 Thu 20-Jun-13 17:49:52

I'm not due until Monday but on the first response box says test up to 6 days (5 before actual period day) so that would be Wednesday so thought it would have defo shown today really so not holding much hope!! Xx

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 18:06:01

Well yes... But I showed up negative 5 days before, then this very faint line today ( 3 days before). Having said that, DH say he can't see it and that I'm mental. I must admit I'm beginning to think myself that I'm imagining it! Even I can only see it while holding it at funny angles towards the window!

Bambi27 Thu 20-Jun-13 18:13:08

Oh really sleep crisis that gives me a bit of hope!! Honestly my body is just being mean! I had decided that that's it I'd given up this month so it has now done exactly what it did before I found out with my first, extremely bloated and some spotting sad honestly ttc is such a mind spin!! Can u put a pic on so we can see if there's a line! I'm sure you're not going insane as you haven't seen one other days!!!

sleepcrisis Thu 20-Jun-13 19:15:50

I have tried to take a pic but it won't show up on the photo! That's how faint it is. Will try again later.

And actually I would be too embarrassed to show anyone in real life because it really looks like I'm clutching at straws!

I can't wait until the morning when I can test again...

I feel like you Bambi - convinced because I feel just like I did last pregnancy. I am hoping to prove DH wrong!

gatsby79 Thu 20-Jun-13 19:42:34

Good luck sleepcrisis! I have faith in your line!

TrixyPixie Thu 20-Jun-13 19:43:08

I used them after 1st month of TTC ds1. Pre period due date got a negative, period due date a positive and a baby 9 months later. grin

Bambi27 Thu 20-Jun-13 19:57:41

I truly believe you have a line because you have not seen one on all other tests so fingers crossed for fmu!! Will wait to hear smile xx

johnnycomelurky Thu 20-Jun-13 20:10:35

Sleepcrisis I had a very, very faint line a few days before period due, had to squint to see it but defo was something there. I convinced myself I wasn't really pregnant and did about 5 more tests. Wasn't until I did a digital that I really believed it. Am 13 weeks now. A line is a line no matter how faint.

johnnycomelurky Thu 20-Jun-13 20:11:08

And good luck!!

Bambi27 Fri 21-Jun-13 08:51:50

So??? I'm dying to know!! Line??? X

2lilgirls Fri 21-Jun-13 09:58:45

Dying to know too! Really hope you have a definite line now sleepcrisis

I am 12dpo today and will probably pick up a Tesco test later today. Quite proud of myself getting to 12dpo without testing lol. Have zero symptoms, of AF or a BFP.

Good luck to everyone else testing X

sleepcrisis Fri 21-Jun-13 10:53:17

Crappy numark test was negative ( blue cross kind) just been out to pick up FR, now just waiting to need a wee!

sleepcrisis Fri 21-Jun-13 11:04:54

Can anyone tell me how to post a pic? FR test v v faint line but more than yesterday!

2lilgirls Fri 21-Jun-13 11:36:44

Yay definitely a positive so!! Can you see it without tilting and squinting? grin

I have no idea how to post a pic, sorry.

sleepcrisis Fri 21-Jun-13 11:45:55

Just about... If you know what you are looking for! The fact that I can see anything at all on a photo is a good sign! Yippee!

sleepcrisis Fri 21-Jun-13 12:55:21

Ok I have put a pic on my profile

Feeling bad as have 2 threads on the go about this bloody line!

2lilgirls Fri 21-Jun-13 13:21:19

Ok this is probably a stupid question but I am new here - only joined MN this month. How do I view your profile? I am clicking your username but nothing happens blush

johnnycomelurky Fri 21-Jun-13 13:28:09

Aw congrats, you appear to be updiffed!

blueamber Fri 21-Jun-13 13:34:08

I think you have to make your profile public for us to see

gatsby79 Fri 21-Jun-13 13:44:20

Sleepcrisis, congrats! I am still testing positive 16 days post injection so starting to believe it might be real...

2lilgirls Fri 21-Jun-13 13:57:51

Delighted for you gatsby79 smile

sleepcrisis Fri 21-Jun-13 14:26:56

Congrats gatsby!! Great news! Have made profile public now.

2lilgirls Fri 21-Jun-13 16:49:45

Saw it, that's a definite positive - delighted for you!!

Well I am probably out, 12dpo and BFN. Was not at all expecting a bfp first month trying so down the TTC road again I go.

Have a nice weekend everyone, enjoy the high sleep crisis smile

Bambi27 Fri 21-Jun-13 19:33:30

Ah congrats!! Yah! I poas today and still negative so really not holding out any hope now! Looks like I'll be ttc with you again next month bnmum sad onwards and upwards!! So happy for you guys that have caught!! Enjoy it!! Xxgrin

Bambi27 Fri 21-Jun-13 21:19:46

Sorry bnmum thought you'd had af!! You're not out yet! Ha xx

sleepcrisis Fri 21-Jun-13 21:49:09

Fingers crossed for you all, still a few days til you're out 2lilgirls and Bambi27, surely?

Bambi27 Fri 21-Jun-13 21:58:07

I think a pg test would have showed a slight line at least! Xx

gatsby79 Sun 23-Jun-13 08:27:15

I'm going to do a digi test later today and if it's still positive I am going to finally tell my other half! He's been in the dark this whole time.

Bambi27 Sun 23-Jun-13 09:17:18

Ah I'm sure it will be gatsby! Congrats again xx
