blocked tube, ectopic, lap, waiting lists - any experiences

Hi

After a long and protracted 'pregnancy of unknown origin' and subsequent medically managed miscarriage, I've found out one tube is blocked.

It's probably the reason for the ectopic. ie: the sperm got through the blockage but the 'embryo' couldn't get back down.

I am hoping to get a laparoscopy as I don't want to go through that ever again, but don't want to stop TTC.

Anyone know about success rates for unblocking and most importantly, how long the waiting list for a lap is?

Hi there, I don't have a similar experience but if you join some of the other threads in "Conception", people there may have more info. Try using the search facility above with some of the key words.

Good luck!

When I had a similar experience the appointment to have the lap took 6 months. However I was already 3 months pregnant by then so good luck ttc .

Hi Hairytriangle

You'll need to speak to a specialist about whether attempting to unblock your tube is the best thing. I was told that a lap could cause adhesions, and thus could lead to more problems, plus I suspect that if you have another working tube operating on the dud might not be really necessary.

Your good tube can pick up eggs from your ovary on your bad side. There has been a study suggesting that tubes pick up eggs from the opposite side up to 30% of the time - I know that 2 of my 4 confirmed pregnancies have happened this way. So even with one dodgy tube (or in my case only one tube), honestly, all is not lost.

Hi Hairytriangle,

I had a laparoscopy after a year TTC (was on the waiting list for 4 months) and was told both of my tubes were blocked. The surgeon was able to unblock them as they were blocked at the ovary end - he basically 'cut' off the bit stuck together at the ends. He gave me a 25% chance of getting pregnant. I conceived 2 weeks later and had a girl! Unfortunately I had an ectopic and had to have a tube removed when trying for DC2 but 3 months later I fell pregnant with another girl. I have had 2 DCs with very dodgy tubes! I'm TTC again with no success yet but am optimistic!
