Hi,
Since last baby, I am only ovulating every other month it seems. This wouldn't be a problem if Oving middle of cycle but I seem to be OVing day 6 or 7. I'm checking temps and using OPKs which both indicate this clearly.

I have been trying to get pregnant for nearly a year with no success. I have 3 children all of whom were conceived first month of trying. My youngest is 2.5, I am 39.

When I googled early OV, lots of stuff saying eggs too immature and little chance of pregnancy. I've spoken to my GP who was pretty useless just saying I was older and had 3 already so should just accept it.

Can anyone give me any idea what causes early ovulation and what I can do to 'right' the situation? Previous to my last pregnancy I ovulated on day 12 or 13 of a 29 day cyle. Cycle now anywhere between 27 and 32 days.
Thanks

You should be referred to a gynae for further evaluation as both the OPK's and temps are not fully reliable indicators of actual ovulation. What you need are blood tests and this will show what your hormone levels are like throughout the cycle. A Day 2 test can be done to check both your LH and FSH levels (these are normally about equal) and a day 21 should measure progesterone.

Think you GP is being unhelpful here; I would ask another GP in the practice for a referral or at the very least a second opinion on this matter.

Ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. There is nothing you can personally do to change that particular course of events. A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days OR with less than 4 days of variation from month to month.

Thank you, AttilaTheMeerkat. Really helpful advice.

I am also having physical signs of ovulating at that time, namely egg white stringy CM and dull ache low on one side.

I think I will go back to see another GP. I know I'm lucky to have conceived 3 babies easily and that the NHS has a limited resource. I'm certainly not looking for any form of assisted conception (if that was the only way) just advice and maybe drugs (if they'd help)

My last baby did feel like she wrecked my insides. Maybe it won't happen but I'd like to try.

Has anyone else ovulated so early but still conceived?

Hi archstanton - I have always had very short cycles, usually between 21-23 days (last one was 20 days. 20!!). I ovulate on about day 7-8. I conceived my son on the second month of trying (we are now TTC number 2).

I'm not sure if early ovulation is a problem as such, I think a short luteal phase (between ovulation and period) is more of a problem as the fertilised egg may not have enough of a chance to implant. I'm no expert but I would imagine if your body is ready to ovulate it's because your egg is mature.

Good luck anyway!
