Hi all,
has anyone ever tried the timing method while ttc? Boy doing the deed as close to ovulation as possible, a girl 1/2 days before ovulation..
We have 3 girls and I long for a boy. I have seen on the net that it's all about the timing.
Has anyone tried this?

Hi, I'm not able to reply but i'm with you on the boy wish front! I have two gorgeous girls and would like a boy next! My two were conceived in very different ways but both very close to OV, on the day if not the hour!

1st - few attempts and few days apart each time but def on the OV day.
2nd - sick of ttc and failing so kept DH in bed for 8 days worth of BDing
Both produced girls!

Ive heard that the acid/alkaline theory works quite well, if you have given that a try?

We have 3 gorgeous boys ds1 conceived on day 7, ds2 not sure and ds3 day 5 believe it or not! I was quietly surprised at ds1 and ds3 as I'd read about the timing method while pg with ds1 to guess his gender. I'm now in a panic as we had unprotected sex using withdrawal on the night of my 40th birthday both a bit tipsy and I'd had a prescription for the minipill in my bag all week but too busy to get it) which fell bang on on day 14! I know it was silly but I'm now a bit late and getting worried but I think the timing this time (if I'm pg) would mean another bouncing boy!
I've heard though that its more likely to get a boy if you use timing as trying for a girl means you might miss ov day by too much.

Good luck

Google it Clare I think its called the Shettles method. If you hope for a boy try the day before ovulation and on ov day. male sperm swim faster than females and don't live as long. So for a girl if you try a few days before ovulation the females will have had time to reach the egg.
It would not have worked for us though!
Good luck

i think it's easier to 'try' for a boy than a girl if that's any consellation. In that it's easier to tell when you're ovulating than when you're 2 days pre-ovulation.

I've heard that certain positions favour boy/girl conceptions but cant remember which way round it goes.

Also make sure your DP doesn't smoke-this slows down male sperm and increases chances of a girl.

Also, apparently working Mums are more likely to have boys than SAHMs- something to do with hormones.

Use ov tests and avoid swi until you get the LH surge.

I have three boys, all conceived on ov day I think. Then "did" Shettles to try for a girl which involves avoiding swi after 2 days pre-ov. It took six months, 2 chem pgs and a emc and in the end I just said "sod it" and left it up to God/fate. I am 19 weeks pg with a girl now.

Re positions, it's missionary and avoiding (female) orgasm for a girl. So much more fun trying for a boy!

Morning sex is supposed to a better time for boys all 3 of mine were early am conceptions! Alternating days for a higher sperm count. Also no hot baths for your man until afterwards. Apparently chefs have more daughters as the high temp isn't good for sperm count and kills off a lot of male cells! Wasn't Jamie Oliver hoping for a boy? Maybe he's had one since.

IloveGreg Congratulations what a lovely story! We've 3 boys but after a big pregnancy scare I think we'll just enjoy our little team o lads.

Hi,

I'm having my mirena out on Friday, and we'll be trying for a boy (although I know it'll be a girl now ).

I already have two boys (with xh) and a dd with dh, but dh craves a boy, so we're going to give it a try.

I've ordered this book: www.amazon.co.uk/How-Choose-Sex-Your-Baby/dp/0767926102/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=127607&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 5331&sr=1-2 As he seems to be the man, so to speak!! Also a bbt thermometer and some opk's.

According to the first page of the book, there's an 80% success rate with boys and 75% with girls. Also, for boys, have a look at alkaline diet at www.energiseforlife.com/wordpress/ which has quite a lot of info.

Good luck!

C xx

Managing to conceive a baby of either gender would make me quite happy. But good luck
