Can someone talk to me about the effects of alcohol, hot baths etc on ttc? (esp effects on men)

DH LOVES his baths, and is fairly partial to a glass of wine, so I don't want to deprive him unnecessarily...

Is it important to say off the booze & baths just during my fertile phase (so for about a week a month), or should he avoid for a bit longer beforehand, or what?

Apparently it takes about 75 days to grow mature sperm, but I don't know at what point boiling them is problematic!

All advice gratefully received

I have a blazing hot bath every day, and produced a girl when DW and I were 37 and a boy when we were 39. DS took ages to 'take', but never thought about baths being the cause of this. DW thought we conceived him when she got more accurate on calculating fertile dates

Thanks, that's reassuring to know. I'm probably overthinking all of this - I imagine these aren't things to get overly worried about unless we find we're struggling to conceive.

Anyone else got any info/experience on this?

We had problems conceiving dd2 (took us 2 years) and after a year I banned suggested dh refrain from taking long hot baths. We were told it affected his sperm. He also cut down his drinking (alcolhol defomitely affects quality of sperm) but he didn't stop drinking completely. He also took zinc supplements.

Don't know if it all helped, though. Tbh the stress we were going through and the frenzy I whipped myself up into from not conceiving were by far the biggest factors in us not conceiving, of that I am completely convinced. I think I probably made things worse getting dh to do all this as it put lots more pressure on him. on top of the steess of having to 'perform' to order which nearly ruined our sex life anyway . It was a very difficult year, that 2nd year of ttc.

Funnily enough we got pg after we received the date for our first ivf appointment . Go figure!

But having said that, there are lots of studies out there that say cutting alcohol and hot baths does help sperm. It's something you'll have to weigh up for yourself. Good luck
