A question from a worried husband (and apologies if I don't use the right abbreviations/acronyms etc.!)
my wife has pcos and endometriosis and we have been trying for the last three years without much any success apart from one miscarriage. We started IUI in December and after 4 attempts we got a positive test result using the test we were given by the Clinic and also one from a Clearblue as well. So far, so elated. However, worry has set in. We have a seven week scan at the clinic tomorrow and my wife (and I) are fretting big time that there may be nothing there. Is this possible? She is taking Cyclogest, and I have read that sometimes fertility drugs can affect a pregnancy test, although after some research on the web it seems that Cyclogest doesn't. My wife seems to have many of pregnancy - feeling very sick all the time, occasional cramps (although less recently) and having a lot of trouble sleeping.
Anyway, the appointment is at 2pm tomorrow (Friday 7th) and if anyone has any words of wisdom to reassure/prepare me then please get in touch. Obviously I won't share anything negative with my wife for fear of upsetting her, but I would like to know in advance.

I think it is perfectly normal to worry like this or at least I know I had nightmares before my scans. I worried there would be nothing there and had a recurring nightmare that there was a bundle or hair and/or kittens in there! Sounds looney but I was really upset.

Cyclogest is progesterone and will not give a false positive on a pregnancy test, so when your wife took the tests she certainly was pregnant.

As I am sure you know this is no guarantee that everything will be fine. But while lots of prgnancies do not last the course even more do. The odds are on your side. Good luck for tomorrow, please come back and tell us the outcome.

It's totally normal to have this fear - I remember vividly sitting in the waiting room for the 12 week scan thinking 'what if there's nothing there?' 'what if they think I made it up on purpose?'

Loads of others on here (and in RL) have said the same thing so please try and put your mind at rest. I hope your scan tomorrow goes well! x

Ok, something else to worry about: after the scan on Friday we were given the pics and a report. Should I be worried about the following phrase in the report: "...small bleed proximal to gestation sack.."?
Being a man, anything involving blood is a Bad Thing, particularly in that area, and starts me Worrying.
Any words of reassurance/caution?

Probably an implantation bleed - someone way more knowledgable than me will be along in a mo I'm sure. Relax, if it was anything to worry about they'd have told you and would be giving you another scan pronto xxx

themaleworrier i got pregnant in april last year and at 10 wks started bleeding, went for scan and there was baby, heartbeat everything look fine, but the also said there was a pocket of blood at the side of the sack, that it was probably the cause of the bleeding but they couldn't be sure, they did say it could have been another baby??

Anyway, as i type i am listening to my beautiful 15wks old baby girl Erin cooing away, all the way through there will be things to worry about but good luck and hope you and your wife and new baby stay fit and healthy, hope to log in in a few months and see your birth story. good luck x

I love Mumsnet! Thank you (again) for your reassurance.
On another note, I got busted last night. My wife happened to look at my laptop. "You're looking at Mumsnet??!". I blushingly Confessed All and after reading my initial post she too was reassured by all your replies. Unfortunately the second question worried her because she hadn't read the report from the clinic, but thanks to decafgirl and partyofseven her mind was put at ease. Thank you all.
