Hi mumsnetters

Last month I had a 33 day cycle! Since I was 11 has always been 28 days long, will it go back to normal. Its day 27 now, and normally have AF cramps a week before, but have had nothing so far!

Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi jphc,

Are you absolutely sure it has always been dead-on 28days?! I know I became much more aware of the differences in my period each month only after I began ttc.

It is quite normal for your cycle to fluctuate slightly. Regular menstrual patterns can be altered by illness, insomnia, stress, physical exertion, and physical and emotional changes.

Your cycle changes because ovulation occurs earlier or later than usual. The luteal phase (which is the part of your cycle between ovulation and the next period) doesn't vary by more than a day from it's normal* length - so if you know when you ovulated, you can estimate when to expect your next period/bfp.

*luteal phase averages 14 days, but this differs from woman to woman. If yours is, say, 19 days it should stay around 19 days.

Sorry - long-winded way of saying that ovulation is the key!!

I am sure you will find lots of support on the conception threads. Good luck.
