Bananas for a boy?

I have a boy who is 21 months and just incredible (as all our babies are!) and now my husband and I are thinking of gearing up to start trying for number two. And before continuing to read this please understand this is a light hearted message, my dream is to have another healthy child, boy or girl, that is bliss and the dream.

Before my son I wanted a girl and when I had him I thought boys were the best thing ever and only wanted boys. I still think boys are better than girls ;-) but then I think that how could another boy be as lovely as my first and so it would be fun to have something different. Anyway, I've read lots of times that a diet including bananas and cereals is very boy-friendly, my breakfast is banana and cereal. I adore both. And I'm very into bread. They're probably what my diet consists of, and cheese. Apparently you should also eat less for a girl. Now I don't want to starve myself or cut down on what I love and is good for me when I'm trying to conceive (and I'm not going to try and time conception as I want fate to decide), but I don't want to completely rule out any chance of a girl either. So have people out there gorged on bananas and Weetabix etc and still had a legion of girls or is there something in the diet thing?

Thank you!

When we tried for a girl we had sex before a couple of days before I ovulated, apparently girl sperm live longer and are produced in smaller quantities so when you ovulate they're the only ones left!! Boy sperm need to enter the egg quite quickly....if that makes sense!!

We did this for two months and as a result Mabel was born!! She was my third child and, like you, I thought I'd just try!! We have three boys and one girl, they're all pretty scrummy!

My diet is just what you describe and I have a girl, so who knows!

Thanks Posie! How lovely to get your little Mabel (and what a pretty name!). Sounds like you have a gorgeous big brood!

Interesting with the ovulation. Perhaps I will try that... Got so confused when I was trying for our son and was convinced I wasn't ovulating at all (never got the gunk the conceptions threads go on about!) and those smiley face ovulation sticks never smiled at me! Completely freaked out even though we'd only been trying for a couple of months and spent £80 on a ovulation monitor and two days later before I'd used it (got put off by the big instruction booklet!) I found out I was pregnant (wasting lots of money was clearly the key!). So basically, I'm not sure when I ovulate. Perhaps if we try and have sex in the first ten days of my period and then hold off...? Hmm.

Thanks Chipper! Couldn't possibly give up bananas (particularly as I have to eat up my son's squished rejects!).

I was going to say...no that's a terrible name for a boy..but now I see this isn't a baby name thread so I will just leave!

I ovulated on around day 12...I think and so we had sex on day 10, never on 12/13....it may have worked, it may have just been chance. If your cycle is 28 days then I think you ovulate on day 13. It was also when I was most in the mood for sex...although back then that was most of the time.

Thanks Posie. Yes, those were the days...

Not sure about my cycle as before I started the pill I had quite irregular cycles and then I got pregnant in the second month after stopping the pill so though the first pill free month cycle was 28 days I didn't get a proper chance to to see if that was just a fluke. No harm in trying on around those days though!
