TTC after the Mirena Coil

Hello all!

My first post on this site, looking for a little advice/reassurance.

I had a Mirena fitted Sep 08, following 6 months of almost constant bleeding things finally settled down (thank god!!)

We have now made the big decision to try for baby number 2, and will start TTC in the summer (August/September) I am having the Mirena removed on Monday - in advance to give my cycle a chance to return to normal!

Just wondering how long it took for cycles to return to normal for anyone who had the mirena removed - especially if you had the problems with it settling down initially like I did.

I'm working on the assumption that it took 6 months for it to settle down when it went in, so it will take the same amount of time when it comes out?? It seems like a fair assumption to me...3-6 months seems to be the medical opinion, although I've read lots of cases of people getting pregnant straight away!!

Would love to hear from anyone in a similar situation, or who has had a similar experience.

Thanks

As I just asked above ... Mine is out but no sign yet of return to normal. My doctor told me it is likely you can concieve straight away... I ovulated and had light but regular periods while mirena was in. And it settled quickly really once inserted. Just worried I guess with all the bad press I keep reading about people who don't manage to concieve... However I'm sure the majority of people do concieve just fine and they don't feel the need to talk about it :0)

Hello,

I had mine removed last year and after a 2 day withdrawal bleed 3 days after removal went straight back to regular cycles.

We have been, ahem, actively TTC for 3 months now, no BFP so far but you could set your watch by my cycle so I am optimistic!

Good luck!

Hiya, I had mine out in January to TTC no 2 and my cycles haven't settled down yet, but I think I am ovulating. One thing I would warn about, I had really strong pg-like symptoms when I came off it - sickness and v sore boobs, which I've read can be common withrawel symtom. Other people have no problems though and as I understand it, you're fertile again immediately as they advise you to use condoms for the week before removal if you're not aiming to get pg.

Good luck with the removal and TTC!
