Pregnant by withdrawal method?

Hello

DH and I have been using the withdrawal method (it wouldn't be the end of the world being pg but he isn't keen). I'm pretty sure we had sex around the time I ovulated. He is always super-careful and never ejaculates inside me.

I think my period is due this saturday but since thursday or friday of last week I've been getting cramps (not so bad but definitely aware of them) and sometimes weird (mild pains). I'd do a pregnancy test but think i should be patient and wait. plus keep telling myself it's probably just my period coming.

Has this happened to any of you? Anyone who got pg using the withdrawal method and they were sure that their partner had been careful?

Hate waiting!!!!!!!

M eand my boyfriend used the withdrawl method a few times when we were teenagers.
The result is my 17 yo Ds1!!

The man releases "Pre cum" before any ejaculation has taken place, perfectly possible to be pregnant!

Yes I know all about the "pre cum"

Just thought that perhaps the man hadn't been as careful as he could and had come a little bit inside. my DH is super-careful

Have to say we are (thankfully) quite fertile. Last time was pg we had had sex only once that month (thankfully it's not so infrequent anymore!! ha ha)

feeling v confused

I don't doubt your confusion. You use a non-effective mode of contraception and now you're pregnant. What a confusing time for you!!!

If you have penetrative sex around the time of ovulation without using contraception then yes, you could be pregnant. The withdrawal method isn't reliable.

I think your plan to wait until your period's actually due to test is a good one, but the same would be true if you were actually ttc. Maybe as well to get on the folic acid just in case though...

however careful he is, he cannot stop sperm/pre cum leaking out.

it takes one sperm, just one.

the withdrawal method, if not used with other natural family planning techniques, should not be considered contraception IMO

if your partner was not keen, he should have insisted on condoms or something else

If you're not pregnant btw, and want to continue not to use condoms/pill/coil etc, you would be better looking for information about natural family planning methods.

Still not as reliable as the former but a hell of a lot better than withdrawal!

i know someone who used the withdrawal method. and were careful. they have 5 children. it does not work as a form of contraception. he's now had the snip.

Hi, me and my husband have been using that method for 3 years since we had our daughter and it has worked so far for us, we both seam to be very fertile as with both my kids fell pregnant straight away. in saying that though me and hubby wouldnt mind another, but if we both dead set against having another i would prob think of a more safer conception.

I also agree with the above comment if your partner is not so keen maybe try something else and wait till both ready and it will be more exciting :-)

Hope that helped a little

x

Hi, my boyfriend and I started to use the withdrawal 'method' about 2 and 1/2 years ago (started using withdrawal after a condom broke during sex while I was ovulating). With regular sex I didn't get pregnant until November 2009. We knew it wasn't a very effective method of contraception but that was ok for us as the only reason that we weren't ready to start TTC was that we wanted to finish decorating the house first...
So yeah you could be pregnant.

I am continuously shocked at the "sane" women who post on this forum surprised that they might be pregnant when they've not been using contraception.

Having sex is directly correlated to pregnancy.

2 babies here using the "wait until we get going before putting a condom on" method. he is getting the snip at the earliest opportunity. Until then I am on the pill and we aren't even holding hands without a condom

fgs this is 2010! do people really consider withdrawal a method of contraception still?

skihorse · 19/01/2010 13:13

herhonesty Seems so... that and breast-feeding. Oh... anyone still believe you can't get pregnant if you do it standing up?

Her partner will be so thrilled and will label her a "sperm stealer". But then presumably he's not 12 years old either.

Yes reading between the lines the OP sounds as if she is ttc!

Wait...you can get pregnant standing up? What if the girl's on top, surely gravity will ensure she stays baby free?

skihorse · 19/01/2010 13:40

littlewhitewolf Didn't work for me. We did it the "wrong way up" and now I've got a bump.

Congrats skihorse! My 6 month old DD on my lap also disproves that theory!

Why the ?
Pre cum (or whatever the technical term is!) is real. It's not propaganda from Durex.
