Conception

Has the 'just BD every other day throughout cycle' thing worked for anyone?

We are on cycle 7 ttc no.3 and feel like I need a plan!! We've tended to BD every 1.5-2 days around Ov time and then not really anything for the rest of the cycle . Do you think this is damaging DH's sperm quality- his motility is 46% I think but otherwise good with 128 million per ml?

Anyway the proper question was has anyone had success with the BD every other day throughout cycle method?!

Had you struggled to conceive before you got your BFP's?

Worked for me twice. Unfortunately second time round ended in mc. But as I had a history of long cycles with my body making more than one attempt to ovulate I tend to keep having regular sex after I think I've ovulated in case it hasn't happened yet. Also more like every 2-3 days, with perhaps a longer gap if I know I'm definitely not ovulating.

Yes 3 times...but had to start day 7 of my cycle as I Ov on day 9..if I'd have followed the usual days of 'most fertile' we wouldn't have any DC's..we would have missed my eggs all the time.

All three times I conceived it has been a month where we just had lots and lots of sex. Probably every other day for most of my cycle.

"We've tended to BD every 1.5-2 days around Ov time and then not really anything for the rest of the cycle"

Doing this is a big mistake and timed intercourse like this does no-one any favours at all, it can put undue pressure on both of you. You do not therefore need any such plan.

Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

Generally speaking fertility does decline with age. If the nature of your periods has changed in any way this can also affect ovulation as well.

Make love when you both feel like it - and throughout the cycle as well not only around the supposed ovulation time as it is all too easy to get that date wrong.

I know it's not ideal but I think plenty of people do still suceed by just BD'ing around O time. We have BD'd every other day since day 5 this time and if I actually see any EWCM this time, we'd probably do an extra one!

Attila or anyone else- is it possible to get pg with miniscule amounts of EWCM? I'm 33 so not that old! Am also using preseed this month. Used that when ttc no.2 too but not in the cycle where I got pg

Hi Ilovethebeach, I had problems concieving first time round (due to endometriosis) once this was fixed I was advised by my consultant to BD every 2 or 3 days throughout the whole cycle. I think this was mainly because as Attila says it's very easy to mistime things and pinpoint when ovulation has occurred.

Good luck and hope you conceive soon
