Clomid - should it hurt?

I'm halfway through my 1st cycle - CD 16 on Clomid - 100mgs, days 2-6 - and it is blardy painful. Is it normal? Should I expect it?

I am worried because I have taken one dose too many and fear it might be causing trouble.

I also have no monitoring set up whilst I'm on it which is causing me concern. Everything I've read says people are monitored by scan or bloodtest, but my consultant has just booked me in for another appointment in 6 months.

I have emailed the consultant to ask her about monitoring, but as yet have received no reply.

Is anyone else taking it with no monitoring? Should I push for it?

Hi Daisy,

I took it and had no monitoring on it at all - but I was only on 50mg, not 100mg.

If it's really that painful I would push to have a scan as it may have caused over stimulation (but I was assured by my fertility clinic that this is very rare).

I definitely had an exaggerated sharp pain in my ovaries when I took it but I just figured it was doing its job.

Best of luck

PnM x

Thanks PnM - I also figured the pain means it's doing it's job, but have started to worry because it's been going on for a few days now. It's not all the time, but when it hurts, it really hurts.

I suppose ovulation must have happened by now; they say it will be between 5-10 days after the last pill. I will look up the symptoms of over stimulation; and if it's a problem to worry about.

I've done temping to try and monitor myself, but my temps are all over the place, so not sure that'll help very much.

If you're under the care of a fertility clinic then give them a ring tomorrow, even if it's just to allay your fears (you have no idea how long I've been trying to work out how to spell 'allay'!!).

The head nurse at the clinic I go to (NHS) is far more helpful/informative than any of the consultants I've seen so it might be worth just asking to speak to someone like that, rather than a consultant?

Above all else, try not to Google too much

It's a tricky one to spell - that's for sure! I often cheat and look words up.

I will call the clinic, although I've already sent in an email asking questions about monitoring.

My temps have been all over the place this month because I've not been sleeping well and our house temperature has been fluctuating wildly (heating controls are broken), so I don't feel it's been much use taking them to be honest.

And of course, I have no idea at all now if I've ovulated. I think it's supposed to happen between 5-10 days after the last pill but there's no sign of it temperature wise; but plenty of signs of movement inside because it's hurt!

We'll have to see. As long as nothing's actually wrong; I can put up with pretty much anything I think .

How's it going Daisy? Has the pain disappeared now?

Hi PnM - the pain has gone away now thanks.

If I look back at my diary I was crampy on days 12 - 16 on and off, and again on days 20 - 21. I'm on day 24 now, and have the sorest boobs in the world. They're waking me up in the night if I squish them.

These Clomid pills are powerful little things; the hormones they stir up have an enormous impact on bodies, far more than I thought could happen.

Thank you for coming back to the thread - as a first time user, it has been quite a worrying time. I was very unsure about taking the first dose; and to have somewhere to ask stupid questions has been invaluable. I'm expecting next month to be calmer.

I'm pleased you're feeling a bit better now. you're right, it is an extremely scary thing to do - I really don't like taking tablets for just a headache so taking something that I KNEW would mess with my hormones was quite difficult!

In fact, when I took my first clomid pill I was away on business and I had visions of it having a terrible effect and everything going wrong (me, a drama queen? ). but actually it was fine. Apart from the hot flushes and mood swings!!

Take care and best of luck - let me know how you get on, have my fingers crossed for you!
