possible daft question but...why are ovulation tests inaccurate following mc....?

(7 Posts)
Hi Kaylo, just wondering if you had any luck or whether AF reared her ugly head? Hope you're okay x
Awww, thanks monkey I'm definitely hoping for some good news!!!

Good thing dh and I were on the ball with 'activity' wink. We didn't want to knowingly miss the alleged fertility boost that trails a mc, so we've been 'doing it' almost everyday, only missed a couple of days when we were ill and that was a good week and a half ago so....fingers crossed

If the test was right then I'll be able to test 30th Oct, just in time for Halloween.

Thank You so much for helping me with that - I didn't understand - I just had people telling me they weren't accurate after a mc.

xx
That's good that you've had a -ve pregnancy test (iykwim sad) and means that your OPK must be showing LH which would mean you have ovulated/are ovulating.
Good luck Kaylo, I shall have my fingers crossed for you smile
Sorry mistyped words and missed words out blush

What I meant was:-

It does make sense, thank you - I'm just confused cos of the negative pg test the nurse did at the EPU.

Ah well, suppose time will tell more than anything else - I just loathe waiting grin

Thanks Again xx
Yes that does make sense monkeybumsmum, but I've negative pregnancy tests?

I was only 5-6 weeks pregnant so very very early on.

xx
Sorry about your mc Kaylo sad

I think that the reason they're not to be relied upon is that you might still have hcg in your system from being pregnant. The ovulation tests test for LH, which is very similar to hcg, and so if it comes back positive then it could be because either hormone is present. I would've thought the best thing to do would be to make sure you get a negative OPK first, and then you can be sure that it's LH that's present and not residual hcg. I hope that makes sense.

Can I ask how far along you were when you miscarried? I would have thought that with an earlier mc the hcg wouldn't stay in your body for that long afterwards, whereas with a later mc it will take longer for the levels to decrease.

Good luck, and sorry again to hear what happened last time, it's just awful to go though sad
...... am having a dunce day today and being a bit thick.

just don't understand - i did one today without thinking and it came back positive, i mc'd 21st Sept.

Thanks

smile

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
