blood test only take 3-4 days to come back to surgery. Just phone in for results and they will tell u. If there is anything wrong the surgeries normally contact you if it is anything serious. What are they testing for...progesterone and oestrogen and possibly thyroid function??????

if you have abnormal levels you wont be ovulating at the normal time so that is why u might have found it dificult to concieve. Dont know how old you are. Did your mum have irregularperiods or did she start menopause early? sorry to be nosey

Hi gina

How irregular are your periods?.

You must be fully aconversant in what levels are being tested - and why they are being tested. The GP needs to give more details to you and you need to be persistant in order to get answers. It is all too easy to get fobbed off in the game that is subfertility. Your results should be back within a week; they may ask you to attend the surgery to hear these rather than tell you over the phone. Get a hard copy of the results too.

Irregular periods are often caused by hormonal imbalances (in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. There is often an imbalance between the levels of LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). Another possibility is thyroid imbalance. I would have thought that one of these is behind your problems now and also why it took you 4 years to conceive your first child.

Regardless of how the results come back I would insist on a referral to a gynae at a hospital's subfertility unit. Your previous gynae history would certainly warrant further investigation.

Good luck, be persistant with these people!!.

fsh and LH are more to do with fertility, oestrogen helps the uterus build up to accept a pregnancy and progesterone helps to brea it down thus causing a period so they might just be testing oestrogen and progesterone because it is not concieveing that u are concerned about is it

AttilaTheMeerkat is probably right about the fact that it took you 4 years to concieve so i would ask 4 all 4 hormones to be tested

gina84uk..here is a link to some info on progesterone which hopefully might help you understand why it took a while to conceive and why your periods are irregular
Not sure if i have put this on properly, but take a look..it explains quite alot about your hormones
