Conceiving with a looong cycle

I'm ttc no.1 now after an mc with my first pregnancy at 7+1 in February/March (it took 5 weeks to happen so didn't get a period again for a while). I was posting in the mc section at that time as Altagloria.

I've only had 3 cycles since then, all 37 or 38 days long. I was on the pill for ten years before coming off it and conceiving a month later, so just have a vague memory of long/irregular cycles in my teens (am 29 now).

I'm not sure about ovulating. I had pretty strong ov pains about the time I conceived in January but haven't had that again. I think I had mild pains last week, which would be around CD 24. I got my BFP on day 36 in February and today is day 30!.

My question for all you knowledgeable mners is - is this cycle length likely to affect my chances of conceiving again? From what I have seen it appears to be quite unusual, which worries me. I would love to hear of healthy pregnancies achieved with cycles this long.

I would also love to hear the answer to this question. My last cycle was 34days, but can go upto 40days.

My average cycle is 38 - 40 days -some times as long as 8 weeks, sometimes (very rarely) four weeks. Like you geekisgood I was on the pill for aeons, certainly 10 years and couldn't remember my cycle . Happily, I have a beautiful dd and lovely new ds. I found trying to work out on paper when I was ovulating was a faff. I did go to acupuncture to "get" ds, though .
I thinks that a long cycle means that you have less chances of getting pregnant that a "regularly" ovulating person, but it does only take one time... Am hoping to try for dc3 shortly and read that agnus castus (sp) can be very good for regulating the cycle. hth and good luck!

Thanks NotanOtter and sobloodystupid so there is hope!

Seeing as normal cycle length is apparently 25-35 days I have been freaking out a bit, even though we weren't really trying properly for the first couple of months after my mc. I think I felt guilty about trying again, weirdly.

So I hope the only effect is that I have fewer chances per year to conceive, I was worried that it meant the uterine lining wasn't in the right condition by the time I got round to ovulating.

Good luck with ttc Ladylou and sobloodystupid (I'm sure you're not btw )!

I think DH and I are going to try the every 3 days routine. Surely somewhere in these long cycles, the BD and OV most coincide. Good luck to you to Geekisgood

Can't hurt to keep trying! What with not knowing when I'm oving, poor DH only gets a rest one week in 5 though

Hi Long-cycle ladies

My cycle was regularly 35 days and I just got used to a five week cycle instead of a four week one. I was concerned that over a year I was ovulating less times than someone with (say) a four week cycle. I conceived DD1 after 13 months and DD2 after four months so it is possible.

I would recommend charting and temping to monitor your own ovulation and fertile time. I found this invaluable as I learned that I was ovulating around day 19 or 20 when I had been thinking that ALL WOMEN ovulate on day 14. I didn't have a clue.

Keep having regular sex, every second or third day. If you can clearly see signs of imminent ovulation then aim to have sex within that period.

The website www.fertilityfriend.com contains a wealth of information about TTC and a free tutorial about the basics of temping/charting and how to look out for your fertile signs.

Thanks Fanjolina I guess I should make the effort to temp. All I'm doing just now is keeping track of period dates and BDing from day 12 until I think I feel ov, or I assume it must have happened (if I am even oving every month, that's another panic).

Sorry about your AF sobloodystupid I really hope you strike BFP gold next month. Think I'll be in the same boat next week as I feel absolutely nothing and last time I got pg I could definitely feel it.
