Is it possible to be pregnant and still get a neg test result,a week after af is due?

Title says it all really.
We haven't been ttc but I have had lots of early pregnancy symptoms for the last 2 weeks, have done many tests and they have all been negative.
Have sore boobs, have been feeling sick, had headaches, weeing alot more, metallic taste in my mouth,cramps/backache and heightened sense of smell.Feel like I'm imagining it,every time I get a negative result.
Anyone else had the same?
Thanks

Yes I have experienced this 2 months running. One month cycle randomly 2 weeks longer than usual, but hadn't had any ov symptoms so assumed annovulatory and sure as day Af eventually showed up. Next month got to just before af was due and had lots of symptoms, sore boobs, funny taste, lots of cm etc. Was very excited and tested, bfn, bought cheapie tests and did LOTS over the next week lol all bfn. Gave up and dranklotsofvodka accepted fate. About 10 days after af due felt a bit spacy and light headed whilst shopping so did a final what the hell test and it was bfp (currently 26 weeks), what I thought were pg symptoms were actually ov symptoms, why not go and see your Dr?

Hmm,very interesting ;-)
I went to my gp last week who basically told me it was highly unlikely that I was pg(she done a test too) and to go back if I still feel the same in a couple of weeks.
Af was due last Monday and the Friday before I started bleeding, but it stopped the next day, which is very unusual for me-it normally lasts around 4 days,so also found that very odd too.

I have this situation, too. Just posted a question about HPTs without realising this thread was here!

AF is six days overdue. I have done two HPTs and both are negative. This morning I felt dizzy and slightly nauseus (did I spell that right?!) but I don't know if that's from the stress or possible PG.

Am going mad with worrying what it could mean - negative HPTs and no AF?!

Very frustrating,isn't it?
Perhaps leave it a few more days and test again-I'm going to be doing the same.
It's the not knowing that makes it worse, and I'm sure my gp thought I was imagining symptoms. She told me that shop bought hpt were just as accurate as the ones they use at the surgery. She said she was almost certain that I wasn't pg,so we shall see(hopefully).

I'm going to the GP tomorrow morning. See what she says. I hope she'll do a blood test in which case we should have the results the day after. If AF hasn't arrived...

I had a friend who never tested +ve with her DD!!
She knew she was pregnant but kept getting bfns, the doctor did a blood test which was negative.
She kept on at the doctor that she knew she was pregnant and finally at 21 weeks they did a scan and she was right!!
Her DD is now 7 and she is pregnant with number 2 (and got bfp straight away lol)

Hope its good news for you

Oh dear-that's frightened the life out of me now.
When pg with my 2 ds's I got a positive result straight away.Just goes to show how different each pregnancy can be.
Of course, there is also the fact that I may not be pregnant.

I had my blood test this morning and the result is negative. So it's "just" a missed cycle, I guess. The GP said to call her on Friday when she will have the rest of the results. I can't imagine what she will have to tell me. The only thing that matters is that this feels like the biggest blow in the 12-year-long woeful tale of infertility and fruitless IVFs.

Strangely, I don't feel as bad as I usually do after a failed IVF cycle. All those injections and early-morning blood tests and the consultations, pickup and transfer, taking time off work without telling the office why...

This has turned into a major rant. I'll be off now. Maybe we'll get pregnant one day.

FarawayWe-sorry to hear this.I know what a struggle it can be,as it took us 8 years of ttc with ds1.
I wish you all the luck,in getting a positive result soon.

My last AF only lasted 2 days which is unusual and finished 7th July. I've had early symptoms for about a week starting with sore nips, stronger sense of smell, headaches and now this morning feeling a bit sick.

I did test Monday first day that this AF was due and was negative, still no sign of AF so I'll buy another test when I go shopping today.

It is reassuring to hear that other people are in the same place!

I hope all works out for you bubbaloo

Has anyone done tests not first thing in the morning? I've heard they are more accurate first thing but can't seem to remember in my early morning fog!

Any tips or thoughts?

Bluesnow-thanks,but I'll be really if I'm not pregnant,as we weren't ttc.
Yes,first morning sample is stronger, but if I remember rightly,I got a BFP with both my other pregnancies, from a mid day sample.

hi bubbaloo
not sure if this helps but with both my pgs i've been well over a week late with similar symptons but BFNegatives! v annoying. eventually it's only a first response, or a clearblue that comes up positive. and everyone i tell always goes "really? that never happened with me"
So it could still happen for you, or as you say, it could just be a missed period.

Well,I done another test yesterday and it's still negative, but still have a whole host of symptoms. Will try and leave it another few days, before testing again and hopefully in the meantime,af will show and the symptoms will go.

Did they give you any explanation Pink Tulips? 9 weeks sounds like a long while

well they gave me the scan as my hcg levals were 18... that's slightly above non preg but far too low to sustain pregnancy... so they told me i'd probably been pregnant and miscarried. they scanned as i'd not bled and they needed to check if i needed a d&c.

dd being in there was so unexpected that when i was having ds1 18 months later it turned out there were 2 files on me, a mc and a pregnancy one as the docs examining me had been so sure i'd miscarried they'd just written it up and never double checked and a new file had been opened on my preg when i went for booking in! took ages to make the doc understand that they were the same pregnancy!

I bought some more tests earlier when i went shopping so I'll wait until morning and then try hard to remember to take it.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? I was going to buy a first response or clear blue but Tesco didn't have either when I went in so I picked up theirs. Should I try to get a Clear blue instead?

Bluesnow-let us know how it goes tomorrow.
Btw I have heard that the Tesco tests are meant to be quite good(as are most others),but I've done about 6 of them so far, although maybe I'm just not pregnant.

bubbaloo Thanks for that! I know the feeling I keep trying to not think about it because I don't want to jinx anything and keep thinking that AF will appear any minute still no show though!

How late are you? I'm roughly 4 days but then who knows! I'll let you know the result morra x

Bluesnow-I'm about 10 days late now, apart from a small bleed, which was a couple of weeks ago and lasted just a day.
Af is normally around 4 days long,so that's a bit odd too,for me.
Good luck for tomorrow.

Hi everyone, may I join this thread?

I usually lurk on MN and have decided to join in because I am in the same situation as the other posters on this thread.

I came off the patch at the end of June, had a period and we started ttc at the beginning of July. We have been 'active' throughout the month and I ovulated and had EWCM on CD17-19. I am a week late, tested negative yesterday but there is still no sign of AF. I have had cramps, although they are not painful and are more of a pulling sensation below the navel, on and off for 2 weeks. My boobs are bigger but not sore and my tummy is rounder and hard. I have the metallic taste but it's not constant and do not know what to make of it. Am I pregnant or not?

I was thinking of testing again on Saturday and then heading to the GP next week if AF hasn't come.

Good luck everyone.

Mumabee-definately worth doing another test in a few days time,to see if you get a different result.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi mumabee welcome - good luck with the wait

Well actually remembered to do test first thing this morning which in itself is a miracle! However it was still negative. Not sure whether to keep wiating or go to GP and ask? Thoughts?

bubbaloo have you been to the GP or are you just waiting?
