To Test Or Not To Test?!

Hello

I'm TTC no 1. Due to my very irregular cycle (52 days, previous 45 days, previous 34 days) I've had bloods and internal ultrasound for suspected PCOS for which I'm waiting the results. In the meantime we have carried on BD, as you never know!!!

This last week I have felt sick on and off, I have a job to keep my eyes open, keep getting funny feelings real low down and had very frequent bowel movements... sorry if TMI!!

I'm not sure if I could be pregnant or convincing myself I am feeling these symptoms. My dilema is should I test and when bearing in mind my long cycle???

I'm currently on day 30 and if I go by my longest cycle of 52 days should I wait another 22 days at least?

Any guidance woud be fab

I really have no idea to tell you the truth but didn't want your thread to go unanswered. I too have irregular periods and have had blood tests and have had an internal scan to see if I have PCOS. The person who did my scan told me my ovaries weren't typically polycystic.

I usually have one really long cycle (last one was roughly 47 days) and one shorter cycle (about 29-35 days). I am currently on my shorter cycle and like you am feeling some "symptoms". My boobs have been sore for several days, I keep getting waves of nausia, am irritable and my IBS is playing up (which usually only happens the week before AF is due, I'm on day 18 now). But to be truthful I too could just be convincing myself that I'm having these symptoms, it's hard to tell isn't it, when you want something so much. If my symptoms continue I'll test on 1st day AF could possibly come which is 26th July so I've got just under two weeks to wait. It's gonna be the longest 12 days of my life!!!

Good luck HellsNB. Hope there is someone who can help you.

If you can do a test, and not worry if the result is negative, then why not test now? On the other hand, if you can wait 22 more days, and your period hasn't started by then ... well, you'd be justified in getting very excited! Remind yourself: testing isn't going to change whether or not I am pregnant!

I too had very irregular cycles and found that the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler (available from Amazon) really, really helped. Apart from anything else, it gives you something 'constructive' to do while 'not getting pregnant' is happening.

More seriously, I don't think I'd have ever managed to remain sane, never mind conceive my third child (at age 42, after 2.5 years of trying, 2 miscarriages and with very irregular cycles -- ranging from 17 days to 49 days), without the calm and comforting advice in this book.

Good luck!

Where did you order it from Hells? May order one myself.

Have you done another HPT?

mampam, I ordered it on Amazon, it is £13 and delivery is free I'm going to order a basal thermometer too (see my other thread!) and start temping.

Nope, not done another test, I won't do another one now until day 53 as that is my longest cycle although I think I will get my period at some stage before then
