Healthy but effective diet -- Losing weight while TTC?

Atkins has worked for me before, but it's hardly healthful, as far as I'm aware.

Is there a place on Mumsnet where TTC diets are explained?

We both want to drop a fair amount in before a specific event in 2 months' time.

Can I and DW do the same diet?

Vitamin supplements?

Can you eat a healthy, active diet and do more exercise?

Seriously, an improved lifestyle and a gradual loss of 1-2lbs a week is the best way to lose weight and keep it off.

You only need vitamin supplements if your diet isn't adequate. Of course your dw needs to take folic acid and there are some good prenatal supplements out there if she wants to boost her system that way.

"Cut the crap" diet - v effective for me: no chocolate, no savoury snacks, no fizzy drinks, limited alcohol only at weekend. Essentially it just involved cutting out "empty" ie nutritionally worthless calories and eating as much as I fancy of everything else.

Oh, and exercise..., I know it is the right thing to do, but usually cannot be bothered.

And any antenatal multivitamin (for Mrs PadDad) you fancy. Evidence is only available for Folic acid but the other vitamins will not do any harm IMO.

Thanks for quick responses.

So is low GI healthy?

So I should be googling "prenatal supplements" and "antenatal vitamins"?

Zinc for me?

prenatal supplements/antenatal vitamins are the same thing! Vitamin section in the supermarket.

You don't need to take anything unless you know you're lacking in something in which case it should be medically diagnosed and managed but your wife should take folic acid.

Assuming no fertility issues here by the way.

I needed a quick diet boost after putting a stone on post MC - loafing on the sofa feeling sorry for myself and eating choc !

Went on the Cambridge Diet for 7 weeks and lost 16 lbs, then had to stop cos I got a BFP I was going to keep going to ten weeks, then go low GI !

The diet is extremely low calorie and mostly meal replacements, so quite radical but the results are very quick. It DOES contain all the essential vitamins and minerals a body needs. It is a well known fact that a lot of people fall pregnant whilst on the Cambridge Diet.

You have to stop and come out of ketosis (a state where your body is burning fat cells as you are not eating enough) as soon as you fall PG
