Day 3 hormone profile results - need some advice!

Hi ladies,

We're getting ready for IVF with ICSI and today I had my Day 3 hormone profile (though on CD 5). My results were:

FSH - 6.5
LH - 4.0
Oestradiol - 301

The nurse said that my oestradiol is elevated, as they look for it to be under 200. The risk with this is that it's masking my FSH, giving a lower FSH reading than actually exists.

I'm going back in for an AMH test tomorrow morning. I'm 31 and my antral follicle count was good (about 30 follicles) so the nurse said that the AMH should show things are fine...still, I'm now of course stressed out that my DH's low sperm count isn't the only obstacle, but that my duff eggs will mean IVF fails .

Since that's not really a good frame of mind to be in when I have an afternoon of work meetings to get through I thought I'd see if anyone on here had had similar oestradiol results and gone on to have babies...any advice/positive stories very much appreciated!

TIA
Caitni

Hi Caitni - In my opinion your nurse is correct, and your AMH will come back fine if you antral count is good. I've just had an antral follicle count and AMH test, and my consultant wasn't bothered about waiting for the AMH result to come back (2 week wait) as the antral follicle count was good. And, as it turned out, he was correct.

Please try and focus on the positive side here - your antral count is fine, and this is something that can't be improved if there is a problem.

I can't advise on the oestradiol issue as this is probably the one issue I haven't had yet - but thinking logically, if the only issue with raised levels is that your FSH is artificially masked, then you should be OK. Most consultants now look to AMH levels as a better indicator of IVF success than straight FSH levels, and it looks like your AMH levels will be fine, if you follow me.

Best of luck anyway

Hi OAP - thanks for your reassuring words. Interesting about what your consultant said about the antral count vs waiting for the AMH results...I'm just going to have to wait and see about the AMH results . I just wonder if the raised oestradiol has anything to do with my short cycles and early ovulation (I ovulate anywhere from CD 9 to CD 13). Luckily I was just too busy at work today to do much evil googling!!

Anyway, best of luck with your next steps in treatment too
