How early can you detect a heartbeat at a scan?

Have previously had a mmc so I have a scan booked for 7 weeks Monday week. Would it be best to wait until I am 8 weeks pg? TIA

You should almost certainly see a heartbeat at 7 weeks - my last pg I saw a heartbeat at 6+2, but a previous thread on here there was someone who saw on at 5 +6.

Good luck .

The sonographer saw one at 5+4 when I had a scan. She desperately tried to show me but it wasn't clear to me! TBH I would wait until you are 8 weeks - by then you will be able to see it properly, the baby will look like a baby with funny little arms and legs and the liklihood of mc after 8 weeks if you have seen the bean on the scan is really low (something like 3%). Also you will be able to see everything properly without it being internal.

Thanks brettgirl - I think I do feel inclined to wait until 8 weeks.

That's what I'd do - I think you have to remember that the reassurance that they offer is fairly short lived anyway, therefore the later you leave it the shorter the gap is to 12 weeks.

You will see heartbeat at 7 weeks, no need to wait until 8 weeks.
