I am trying to conceive and have found it difficult to not smoke when drunk. I only smoke when pickled but love to get pickled once a week, which I guess is binge drinking. (Yes... I know that both are really bad when trying for a baby)

I am coming to terns with having to give up both which is scary. I enjoy a lively social life, especially during the summer months. I am also 39 so even more serious.

Anyone got any info to divulge? Top tips?

BTW I this is my first message, I am a newbie so if I make any mistakes please be kind.

decide what you want more, a baby or being able to smoke and drink whenever you like. Becoming a parent requires a hell of a lot of growing up, look on this as the start of that journey.

not being harsh, i had to make the same decision when i found out i was expecting dd.

Hi nybor,
I used to drink loads and smoke occasionally. I remember thinking exactly as you are, though we weren't planning to have a baby (and assume it happened when drunk )

I'm sure you'll find the desire to drink leaves you almost completely when you become pregnant, and since you won't be drinking, you'll probably be ok not smoking either. That's what I found.

In the meantime, can you reduce your drinking generally and only have big nights out at a time of the month when you know you're not pregnant? Don't give up your social life just yet - it will leave you soon enough! Not sure if this is recommended, by the way, but it's probably what I would do.

Don't worry about the summer yet, by then you might be pregnant and getting drunk will be the last thing on your mind.

Thanks to both the above, I have it all under control now, even if I do feel slightly sorry for myself every now and then.
