ttc after colposcopy/Lletz/abnormal smears

I've been ttc for a year and it has only just occured to me to check whether this could be a problem.

I am 31 now. When I was 21 I had an abnormal smear followed by colposcopy and then laser loop surgery - I've had normal smears ever since and am back on a three year cycle of smear tests. Could this have any affect on why I am not conceiving?

I've had abnormal smears every 6 months for the last 6.5 years. I recently had 2 colposcopies. I fell pregnant with my third after 1 episode of unprotected sex . It hasn't affected my fertility at all, but I don't know whether there could be any links.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties- I wish you lots of luck.

I had the same thing, it did take me 4 years to get pregnant but I managed.

You do however need to tell the gynae when you are pregnant, the loop excision biopsy can shorten the cervix, so they like to check your cervix at 27wks and see if it is soft, mine was and I was given steroid injections incase I went into prem labour, the injections are for the babies lungs. If there is a possibility of complications they can stitch your cervix to try and prevent prem labour, I didn't have this so can't give you anymore details on it sorry.
My little girl was a week early, and one plus side is as my cervix was shorter my labour was very quick and less painful that I had expected.
They will tell you everything you need to know at the time don't panic.

Cos of your age, if your surgeon was like mine, they will not have gone too deep, and they would have warned you at the time if they thought there was a risk. Please don't worry and have fun trying.

If you need anymore info I will happily provide.

Good luck

I forgot to mention, some of my four years of trying I put down to the medication I was given cos I was also diagnosed with endometreosis at the same time as my abnormal cells were removed.
