Trying to Conceive and abdominal Xrays...

I am TTC and have a fertility referral towards the end of January.

In mid Dec I was supposed to have an abdominal X-Ray, actually an intravenous pyelogram (IVP) where they examine my Kidneys, Ureters, and Bladder and inject aniodinated contrast material into my veins.

When I went for my appointment they said they weren't happy to do it as I was mid-way through my cycle and there was a small chance I could be pregnant.

They asked me to call them the day I get my period and they will do it for me that week. My period is due today but I think I have had an anovulatory cycle and so my period may be delayed.

Does anyone know if I should have this kind of x-ray when TTC? I am worried that the stress of the worry about the X-ray last month has caused me to not ovulate this month and don't want to jeapordise this next month particularly as I have the fertility appointment coming up.

TIA

Could they do a pregnancy test at the hospital when you go for the appointment, and then just go ahead if it is negative? I have had this a few times as an in-patient when having procedures like X-rays.

However, I wouldn't panic yet - if you haven't ovulated you would still get a period, right? It would just be the womb lining but no egg? So when you get it call them and it'll be out of the way before Jan.

How urgent is the X-ray? I would wait rather than have it when you are possibly pregnant if you can. Doctors have always tended to go that way with me.

It's not urgent IMO, it's a follow up X-ray following a scan in the same area in July after I found a swollen node in my groin this time last year.

The node has gone down (Though does come up again occasionally) and all my blood tests were fine.

I suppose I am just scared of the radiation having some kind of a bad effect on my old ovaries - I am 39 in April and have been trying for over a year and so everything that could potentially be a problem is scaring me. At the moment I am just worried about the radiation but the stress is as bad.

oh - and it's not this cycle I am worried about, if I don't get my period then I don't go, it's the next one. Was wondering what the effects the radiation and the fluid they inject will have my ovaries.
