So I dont really post here much but have been lurking on conception threads and posted a few times. I just want to share with no-one in particular that yesterday i very unexpectedly got a BFP, had been trying for about 10 months but had given up this month and thought might have to go on clomid in the new year. I'm over 35 so had gone to Gp after 6 months

I had "21 day" progesterone test 2 months running and they came back low, 21 and 18 - not massively low apparently but the GP said i may not be ovulating properly.

I have seen on various searches that you can be prescribed progesterone supplements in early pregnancy. Is this right? Can my GP help? i cant see him until next week but hoping to ask then.

Hi nutherone

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'm on progesterone due to several M/C and extremely prem birth, so totally different reasons to you, but just thought I would post to share . I was going through our local fertility clinic and they suggested several things for me due to my previous history, one of them being the progesterone. Once pregnant I went to my GP and she prescribed all the medication that I required. I have to take the progesterone until 14 weeks and then I can come off it. Its just two suppositories a day.
Im 13 weeks now... wooohooo and only 1 week to go before I can stop them.

Oh and they are a good excuse to stay in bed in the mornings as I tell my DH I have to lie down for a hour afterwards and a cuppa always helps

Wishing you a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy.. best wishes Xxx

First of all congratulations! You must be over the moon.

I don't have any medical expertise, but am pg with DC3 and have been prescribed progesterone suppositories (Cyclogest 200mg) that I have to insert in my fango twice a day. Doc advised this as had 2 miscarriages before getting pg this time round. Apparantly they are good at keeping the uterus lining thick and bloody. Am now 11 weeks pg so fingers crossed that this one is a sticky bean.

Best of luck with your pg. Do read up on it and go to your GP armed with information.

Hope you have a sticky bean too.

congrats on your bfp - i would go for a blood test and get your hcg levels, the importnat thing is to see that they are doubling, so if you get your hcg levels, you get them again 48 hours later .... this is also useful information for your doctor. (and peace of mind for yourself - you can get these done privately if you want)
You can use cyclogest (I havea used this before) which as Htheresantasgirl has said, you use vaginally and helps support your boidies progesterone .... it might be worth taking it as it has no harmful effects (you cant have to much if that makes sense). But i would phone your gp as you would need a prescription for this, and it would be good to take it if needed ....
You can also refer yourself to the early pregnancy unit at a hospital, they are often very kind and helpful ...
good luck and i hope you have a wonderful pregnancy

Hi everyone!
I hope someone can help me with my situation. I had my first IUI done on Dec. 11 and 48hrs prior to my IUI I took ovidrel (for me to make me ovulate) and the morning after IUI Dec. 12, I did an ovulation test and I was ovulating! I then had to do the 2ww. On Dec. 24th, I my period (or so I thought it was my period since it's heavy like a reg. perio). So I called my fertility doctor that day to start a new cycle because i was convinced it didn't work. So I went for my appointment on Friday Dec. 26 and had a baseline ultrasound and bloodtest done. That afternoon they told me I had an HCG level of 8 so we couldn't start another IUI procedure because it's suppose to be below 5. They had me then go back 2 days later Dec. 28 and what a surprise and by this time I didn't have any more bleeding my HCG level doubled to 16. At this point they said and after all my googling I might be pregnant. Went back to the doctor 2 days later Tuesday Dec. 30 and it doubled again to 41. I had another appointment today Jan 1st and still waiting for the doctor to call me. Although I started low on my HCG level, will this be a healthy pregnancy since it is doubling every 2days? Has anyone ever experienced this before? My husband and I are excited but we don't want to keep our hopes up and be dissapointed in the end. Can someone please get back to me.. Thanks a million!

Ree15 - congratulations, I am replying as I had an early unexpected blood test, showing level of 7, was told that under 5 was not pregnant, over 25 was pregnant and that I was in the not known stage. My blood tests were repeated 3 days later and were 51, I was very surprised as was not expecting to be pregnant. Unfortunately for me I miscarried a week later. But this was just one of those things that happens sometimes. If I had not had the blood test I might not even have realised that I was pregnant. However another two weeks later I concieved again, and due to the previous experience and having pain had early blood tests again, and these doubled as they should and I now have the 9 month old result beside me now! Anyway just wanted to say congratulations and best wishes for your pregnancy.
