Had an anembryonic pregnancy. Desperate to ttc again. Has anyone gone on to conceive soon afterwards or did you decide to wait a few cycles?

I had this in May 1999, I had ERPC and my GP told me to wait until I had I period before trying again.

I fell pregnant immediately after the bleeding from the ERPC stopped, and had a postive test result by the end of June 1999.

The only problem I had was that I had to have a few positive tests before my Gp would agree I was pregnant, as he was concerned that the positive tests were because I still had the previous pregnancy hormones in my body.

He confirmed I was pregnant In the mid July.

DD was born March 2000, I was a constant knicker checker right up until she was born tho , as my blighted ovum was discovered after I started bleeding at 9 weeks.

Good Luck

I had the same 7 weeks ago - we've decided to just let nature take it's course, and if I get pg before af arrives then so be it. I think the advice to wait a cycle is to do with making it easier to date the next pg. Good luck.

Thanks for replies. So it seems there may not be a clinical reason for waiting?

From what I've looked at, you would have to rely on a dating scan if you conceive straightaway as there will be no date of LMP. I have also read that 1 cycle is advised to 'clear out' fully, so to speak!

However, I have read lots on here from people who have conceived without waiting. That's what I'm hoping for as was devastated to find out that my pg had not developed at the 12 week scan and just want to ttc again.

That's how I feel detoxdiva. It also feels wrong to use contraception. I don't think I will specifically try this month but will not take precautions either.

Have to wait for bleeding to stop anyway - risk of infection otherwise.

Oh Ladylush - I am so sorry to hear. This must be so hard for you. The only thing I would do is do a test and see if it comes back negative. I TTCed right away, got +ve HPT, but it was the result of an incomplete ERPC rather than a new pregancy. I got all my hopes up just to end in another surgery. Hope you'll fall pg soon again! And - just because there was no embryo does not mean you were not pregnant! You lost all your hopes for this potential life no matter if there were embryonic cells or not!

Thanks Glimmer - I think in my mind I'm saying it was a blighted ovum rather than a pregnancy because it makes the loss easier for me to deal with. Obviously I am totally gutted but I've lost 4 now and I have to protect myself from going insane......whatever works eh!

Ladylush - just wanted to say that I'm so sorry .

I heard the waiting for AF was due to risk of infection to new baby if anything left behind (sorry no nice way to say it) from miscarriage.
