I may or may not be pregnant (will be able to do a test from about this time next week, I think). I'm not sure if I am at all - I've no symptoms of feeling dizzy or sick, no spots of blood etc, but there is a chance that I am as DH and I have not been using contraception and I think have been doing it when I've been ovualting (though my cycle can be irregular so it's difficult to tell). Anyway, I have been having a small glass of wine or two with dinner as I usually do - not huge glasses so still in or around 14 units/week. If I am pregnant, is this likely to have caused damage? V worried so grateful for any advice or medical evidence.

Sorry if this message is a bit garbled, thanks in anticipation.

Hi magic...I found out I was pregnant in the Jan...after having spent a boozy xmas/new year scuba diving! We were trying but didn't think it would happen that quickly so I just forgot about things! I didn't have any symptoms either, it was only when I realised that I was quite late that I began to wonder it this was it. So I was scuba diving - which is recommended against if you're pregnant - and I was consuming far more units than the recommended average shock over the course of 10 days - well it was the festive season!
So like you, I was really worried that I'd done some damage but the GP assured me that this was not the case. If memory serves, they seemed to imply that it was more prolonged increase in alcohol so as long as you limit your intake now then you should be ok. Fingers crossed for you and hope it's positive [if that's what you're hoping for!]

Thanks very much Haribo, that's very reassuring! I hope that I'll know about this time next week so fingers crossed until then. Thanks again!

Magicstatue, I had 2 very messy nights out when I was pregnant with DD1, then I found out I was PG.
I just kept reassuring myself that some people do hard drugs, drink continuously, smoke all the way thru their pregnancies and have healthy babies.

DD1 was big and bouncy and V healthy.

Most of the people I know conceived while under the influence and carried on drinking until they found out they were pg.

Please don't worry.

Also I have heard (not corroborated) that until implatation the absorbtion is minimal. Implantation takes place between day 7 and day 14 I think.

Hi, I conceived just before Christmas and had a VERY boozy New Years Eve six days before I found out I was pregnant. I think I drank at least a bottle and a half of wine. I was also drinking moderately in the following days until I did the test. My daughter was born perfectly healthy etc and is now 2 and a bit and seems to be absolutely fine. Don't worry.

Goodness no! All the best babies are concieved in a fit of drunken passion! wink grin And half of our mother's generation continued with your level of drinking throughout the whole pregnancy, and I don't know anyone with FAS.
Relax, cut back to 1 or 2 a week or less and you will be dandy and so will your bubba. smile

I conceived over xmas and didn't know till after new year (lots of parties and drinking) but DD was fine. I was worried and midwife reassured me. Not sure but think there's something protecting baby very early on. I'm sure someone here can give you the medical/scientific explanation.

I'd hate to think how much I drank over the course of the 10 days we were away....divers aren't the most teetotal of people! grin I prob drank my body weight in wine over new years eve alone never mind the other 9 days of the hol! blush

Try not to worry magic and do let us know if you feel like sharing smile

Thanks so much everyone, I feel much better now. I hadn't thought about but you're right, cutting back on booze and fags whilst pregnant (or at any time) is quite a new fangled approach. I remember being told that in France up until very recently pregnant women were advised to drink a glass of port every day to aid digestion wink

I got horrendously drunk one night before I realised I was pregnant with DD2. She is now a healthy 16yr old and got 10 A* at GCSE!
