Hi
I've been trying to get pregnant for most of this year. I'm 39 and the clock is ticking! Since getting off the pill early in the year, my cycle's been all over the place - anywhere from 2 weeks to 7 weeks, but has lately settled down to roughly 5 weeks. I've been trying chemist ovulation test kits, and my last ovulation was between the 4th & the 6th of this month. Since the 10th, I've been getting slight pain like I'm about to get my period but it's not due for about another week. I know lots of women experience period-like pain during pregnancy, but is it possible this early? Or am I just kidding myself? Every period I get is such a disappointment.

Oh my heart goes out to you for the long wait - some women describe what they term 'ovulation pains' - I completely know what kind of pain they mean but mine never seems to be about during my ovulation!

Hope someone else is around with more for you

spring

If your cycle is this irregular OPK's are certainly not worth using at all. They are not helpful. Having irregular periods as well could mean that you are not ovulating regularly, such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances.

If your period does come this time around I would actually visit the GP and ask for some blood tests to see what your hormone levels are like. I would also request a referral to a gynae; gynaes generally like to see women over the age of 35 if they have been trying for more than 6 months without luck.

with dd3 I had horrendous period pains for the first 3 weeks of the pg - I thought I was just late, but apparently they were implation pains. HTH

Crikey, are you me spring9maple? I am 39 too and have been TTC for 8 cycles without any luck. Last month it would appear I didn't OV at all and AF arrived a week early on CD21. This month it looks like OV day has shifted to day 8 again and I am looking at another 21 day cycle. I temp and use OPK's but have had nothing but -ives for past 2 cycles and like you I have had AF cramping (quite painful actually) since possible OV day.

Have you tried temping and using Fertility Friend to create a chart?

Good luck everyone! smile

I would just like to say, I wish I'd seen this site along time ago, I felt like the only person struggling while my friends and cousins are breeding like rabbits !!! Thanks orangutan. To the other girlies on the site you an get a good deal on ebay with ovulation sticks, even though I've not been lucky yet, I would have missed my ov days completely without them as my cycle isn't great.....good luck to all

Well....chest infection may have cocked up my usual period dates according to Dr, but not the antibiotics.....Though I seem to have contracted thrush fom the botics blush this isnt helping matters!!! I am going to keep positive though this month and not let it get me down. I've spent my pennies on ebay again and ordered more ov & preg tests, with this I also get 6 sachets of pre-seed lubrication, which I dont like the smell of but at least it doesnt kill the little tadpoles grin.
Now then HC.....Im not very good at all these shortened sentences even though I have a 15 year old son.(If your thinking, my god how old is this woman ? Well im 36) Are you about to get your period ?? Just bare with me, I'll pick it up xxx
Hell....Its good to talk .......or type !!!!

Dawni-chest infection is not good but thrush <ouch> Poor you. I am DPO (days past ovulation) 14 which is the standard luteal phase so AF is due today. However, I have gone from a 28 day cycle to 21 last month and am on CD (cycle day) 22 today so maybe I am going back to 28 days again. Isn't the body wicked sometimes?

Well HC, Im still getting the pains but no real period has arrived at my door, the only thing that came today was more ovulation sticks grin !!!
At least trying is fun wink.....I've just got in from work, so I'm now off for a brew and to wash the breakfast dishes xxx
