We have one 4 Yr old DS. Have been blissfully happy until the last six months. Have become obcessed with the idea of a second child to the point of secretly buying ovulation tests and baby name books! My DH has agreed to start trying this month although we both thought we would stick to one. Just wondered if anyone else in a similar position or would like to keep us company

That was me and dh, we were perfectly happy with just the one ds, he's now 6, but back in April we decided we wanted another. Sadly had 2 mc's now, but are getting round to trying again, and can't wait. Good luck beany, it's so exciting grin

Hi VJay
Great to hear from you. Just thought I'd say I am also 37 next month so time not on my side probably. I am really excited though as its something i had kind of thought was over and done with, but suddenly seems like a great idea. Had worried about the age gap, but think our DS would make a great BB. Wishing you all the luck in the world with TTC. Bit out of my depth on some abreviations
so may need an interpreter!!!

I need to confess, I'm not new to mumsnet, been on here a while now, i didn't read the title properly, sorry. If you go to the top you will find an acronym list, I found it really useful when I first came on here. I'm 31, but SIL is 37 and now pg with her third, so don't worry about timing x

Thanks for that. Good to know that your SIL is same age and now pg. Has anyone out there tried a Fertell Ovarian reserve test. got one in Boots. It is supposed to show whether you are still fertile. Tested today. Looks ok but just wondered if anyone had an opinion?

Hi I'm 39 and trying for no.2 - if you asked me a few years ago about kids I would have said a big NOOOOO!!! - but now my clock is ticking I am desperate for No.2 even though I sometimes find one quite enough to deal with (DS is 2.6). I got pregnant earlier this year but sadly lost the baby. I'm trying to get really healthy by eating well, cutting out caffine and stopping alchol. Just starting month three of trying so we'll see how it goes.

Sorry to hear that pelvicflawed. It is always so sad to MC. Yes I am trying to be healthy, but its hard. I have to admit that by the time I get my DS to bed at night, I want nothing more than a glass of wine. Still if it means getting No 2. its worth it.
Good luck this month.

Hi Beanyboysmum (and others!),

i'm just like you - our dd will be 4 next month and we are trying for another after being a bit blase about having more than one. We thought we'd be happy as a 3 people family but suddenly, its really important for us that DD has a sibling.
Its been a bit tougher than i'd hoped (7-8 months on now) but i'm really looking forward to having one at school and one at home (if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant!)

good luck!

Thanks Beanyboys mum...know the feeling about the wine - trying to convince myself that no alcohol Cobra beer tastes just the same as the real stuff!!!

*Hi twoplease*
Yes my DS just started school. He is young in his year so still only does half days. I suffered from morning, noon and night sickness throughout first pg so actually think it will be good to have one in school in case pg is as tough again.
I seem to have heard quite a few times that people had more trouble TTC their 2nd. Probably, because your body is knackered keeping up with the first!!
Anyway I have OV sticks at the ready and DH has been briefed on what is expected of him. So just waitng to get the show on the road.
pelvicflawed
If its any consolation once your PG all alcohol will taste gross - bit like Cobra beer (well did for me last time anyway)

Hi all - know what what you mean about the the knackered bit - I think that is the biggest barrier - when I go to bed all want to to do is sleep. I think I've got over (at last) the strong desire for alcohol at the end of the day - but I've now given up caffeine - now thats tough - especially first thing in the morning.

Hello all, joining in the chat I'm 33 have an 8 year old dd never thought I'd have another then met my new dp and we are trying for another but unfortunatley before knowing the side effects I'd had a couple of shots of depo last year so not having any luck, I took one of those home fertell ovarian reserve tests and mine was all good have since been for blood tests which confirmed this so I'd say they're right, unfortunately again due to depo I have a severly unstable hormone level so am not ovulating but do have the eggs there so am doing the really really healthy diet thing no caffine alcohol dairy etc so can sympathise with you all there, am also taking agnus castus and trying a bit of reflexology to help things along am hoping to be pregnant by next summer that way I won't put to much pressure on myself that I'm not getting pregnant now ! good luck to you all x

i was so sure i only wanted the one but a few months ago i suddenly had a complete change of heart, and was shocked to feel broody again - no specific reason for wanting another such as bio clock ticking/company for ds etc. maybe it's because after 3yrs of brain cells being wiped out by sleep deprivation etc i'm incapable of thinking rationally anymore and all memories of why i was so convinced i would never have another one have faded?

also, bit worried by negative responses from mums of 2+dc i've told i'm ttc, who have come out with such encouraging comments like 'you must be crazy', but then they all had their babies closer together than mine will be (ds will be close to 4yrs or older) so maybe it's just because they wish they'd waited longer? well, i hope that's what it is and not because they are suggesting i won't be able to cope with two?
