Have heard lots about 'lutual cycles' but have no idea what this is and I know people check body temp to work out when they are fertile but can someone explain these things to me please?

How do I work out when my most fertile days are?

I was so sure that i was pregnant this month but got AF today and I am gutted. really want to conceive soon so any advice would be really welcome.

You can get cheap ov tests in bulk from babymad . com but if you have a 28 day cycle you usually ov around day 14. If you experience "strechy" vaginal discharge around this time, like egg white, that is a sign that you are/about to be ov.

Good luck!

this book has everything you need to know about temperature taking

Basically you take your temperature every morning on waking but before you get up (has to be a 'resting' (basel) temperature) then chart it. there is a thread on here on temperature taking www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/582270-temping-buddies-lucky-number-13

Have done it twice, you need to be quite analytical to stick to it I loved it but it does drive some people up the wall!

Watch out for your cervical mucus becoming stretchy and like egg white. This is often a sign that ovulation is approaching. This mucus is "fertile" in that sperm can live longer in it and so can be waiting ready for your egg.

If you have fairly regular cycles you might like to try charting your temperature. If you are interested in doing this a good place to start is by getting a copy of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler which has lots of useful info.

Aditionally, if you check the position of your cervix each day (wash your hands first) you should notice that it starts out low and closed after your period, and rises and opens as ovulation approaches.

Finally, don't get hung up on the idea that women all ov on day 12-14 of their cycle. what they taught us at school is just plain wrong. If you are average, you will probably ovulate between 12-16 days before the first day of your next period (and the length of time between ov and your period usually won't vary much from one cycle to the next). But it is not exactly unheard of to fall outside of that range either.

i use opk , then you know where you are. I have a 28 day cycle and last month the kit was pos on CD14 so we BD around then. Not pg this month but i take antihistamine and read somewhere that i should have come off it as it dries up cervical mucus . I usually feel more like BD mid month which is natures way of telling you that its your fertile time. Also i don't know if you have read on other links but grapefruit juice and evening primrose oil is meant to be good. There is a link to a website somewhere on these links -good luck! x

You can use an ovulation calculator, which can tell you when you will next ovulate based on your last period and your cycle length.

spats - i last got preg from BD the day before the positive line. That can be just before ov so best to get going earlier than that to make sure x

memoo - fertilityfriend website contains all you need to know and more. Toni W book also very comprehensive.

A good place to start (and free!) is the website www.fertilityfriend.com

There is a very easy to follow fertility 'tutorial' which explains how taking your temperature every morning and entering the data into the website charts your monthly cycle and will show you when you ovulate each month. This is because after ovulation your body temperature increases slightly due to the rise in the hormone progesterone.

There are other signs to look out for, too such as cervical mucus which changes over your cycle.

You can use ovulation predictor kits as well but can be are expensive.

And don't forget regular sex too

Hello - it's all in the mucus. It's a bit gross but it works. When you are around mid-cycle and your mucus is clear and stretches between thumb and forefinger without breaking, you are about to ovulate. Have sex 3 times a week and you should get the required result. Once your egg is released, it only lives around 24 hrs whereas sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days so be sure to get to it before and after you ovulate as well - Good Luck!

the Luteal phase is the time between ovulation and getting your next period.
