Wanting to try for No 2!

Hello before I had my son in January, I lived on Mumsnet but since having him (and moving country!) I haven?t managed to get on much at all. I am now waking up to trying for another baby and I wondered if there are other ladies in the same boat as me trying again. I am mid 30s and want a few more kids but I am also still breast feeding (though I started weaning my son 3 weeks ago) and I haven?t yet noticed any signs of returning fertility

Yes, of course I remember you hon! thank you for coming to say hello. What thread are you and the others on? I would love to come and say hello sorry to hear that you haven?t got your BFP yet I really hope the IUI works for you. One of my friends (who I met at AN classes actually) was trying for 7 years before she went for ICSI, her daughter was born on the same day as my son and is such a joy, I hope you get yours soon xx

Hello MrsMcJnr I can't believe you're ttc#2 already - where does the time go???
Gilly and I (and Ready and Rah and some others you might know) are mainly on the "been ttc#1 since forever thread" as well as the "In the company of pregnant ladies" thread (a pun on the titles of the No1 Ladies Detective Agency books if you're wondering - we're the self-styled No1 Babies Detective Agency!)

Nomoremagnolia ? hey there lovely to speak to you I guess we are not really trying for No2, just really hoping that it will happen without us having to think about trying too hard. Thanks for letting me know where to find you all (Alexander McCall Smith was a tutor of mine at Uni! here?s hoping you all start falling soon x

That would be lovely Gilly life is good thanks, it?s lovely to be back and I think DH is enjoying it too. The first few weeks were a bit hectic with finding a flat, buying a car, furniture and cats arriving etc but we are getting there now. Planning to hit the beach for the first time tomorrow! Next time you are over, maybe we could meet!

Hi MrsMcJnr - I was on the ttc with you for a bit too - congratulations on your ds.

my ds was born in August 07 and we are thinking about ttc#2 very soon too. Wanted number two before ds is 2, although similar to you - will be trying to avoid thinking about it quite as much as #1, and just letting it happen.

its stupid cause would in one way rather wait till later in the year so the baby is born after the summer, but at the same time, really want another asap, so think we will leave it to fate (that is no doubt until the first proper ttc cycle, when i will no doubt find a ttc thread, and get obsessed again).

So how are you finding motherhood? i am loving almost every minute. think having another will make things a lot more hectic, but really looking forward to it too.

hi iamamummy - had a wee look at your profile page - is your dc 5 months old just now, or was that put on a while ago? Is it a boy or a girl?

sounds like we are all in the same boat this time - just seeing what happens (although i know that wont last long with me).

you sounds exactly the same as me!! my ds is 6 months old (also born in Jan), I'm still breastfeeding and would love to conceive number two! still no periods yet, even though i've only been doing one feed a day for the past month and a half. good luck x

oh - just saw the pictures - i'd only seen the bit of the profile that says you have one child 5 months old - having seen the pictures, its obvious he is a boy!

did you always intend to have a fairly small gap between your children, or what's made you decide to ttc#2 just now - i think i was still trying to get a good nights sleep when ds was 6 months . still am come to that.

crossed post littlemiss - hi. i am impressed by all you lot with 6 month old babies already ready to go for the next - i've only really felt ready to think about it in the last month or so.

ds is a really easy baby - has genuinely slept through the night since day one. I want four kids, so i figured just get on with it!!! also started back at work, which has given me the extra motivation

oooh mrmcjnr- I think we are in that mind frame now too !!

How do you think you will fair with two under 2? Nappies, milk etc..?

I have had such an easy ride compared to some with Ruby, she slept through from 8 weeks (12-13hrs) a night and she is such a conented and happy baby...!

Keep me posted and I will do liklwise!

Have your af come back?

yup littlemiss - i have been back at work since ds was 8 1/2 months and that definately makes the decision easier. am planning to set up my own wee business in the next year and so hopefully not have to go back to work after number 2.

What do you do? The sleeping sounds great. Ds has never been a good sleeper, but recently, its just starting to get better - i think since he has been on the move he's using a lot more energy and so making himself more tired - but i think he's just a baby that doesnt need that much sleep.

hi ladies

conkertree - thanks for the reassurance regarding ds gender lol, i was a bit paranoid for a sec there i have always wanted a larger family 3/4 dp reckons 6 i would ideally like them all close together as i have seen the strong bond they have when they are similar ages through friends children. also dp is 20 yrs older than me.

littlemiss - my ds was born on the 6th feb, i did not breast feed so periods returned back to normal after a few weeks, although this is only our real month of ttc. ds is also a good sleeper 7-7 most nights but i have been warned no.2 will prob be the complete opposite!

Report
conkertree · 30/07/2008 13:57

yup i agree iamamummy - although mine wont be as close in age (assuming ttc doesnt take too long), i would still like there to be less than 2 years between them.

i understand that a bigger age gap means you get to spend more time with the first child on their own, and they are older so might not get as jealous etc, but then there are loads of arguments for closer in age too, and they are less likely to remember life on their own after the initial getting over a new baby being in the house.

I think in the long term, closer ages will hopefully mean they are closer to each other when they are older.

i know it will be hard work juggling two littlies but its definately worth it, i am giving up work too so they will be my sole priority day in day out.

to conceive ds it took us 1 year and i really dont want to prolong ttc again just incase it takes the same amount of time if not longer to fall again.

how old is your ds now? and are you ttc now or just thinking about it? dp was ready to ttc straight away but i was the one that wanted to wait a while until after another chat when ds was 3 months we agreed after my next af we would go for it...and here we are now!

btw i am loving that devils outfit your ds looks so cute!!

i always joked that when i was in my teens i would dress my babies up all as winnie the pooh characters - hence the picture on my profile, think my family took me literally

Hello Conkertree of course I remember you!!! Congratulations on your DS. All that obsessing last time round was worth it though wasn?t it? I adore being a Mum and my DS makes my world complete but I don?t want him to be an only one. Interesting that your AF came back after 7 months, I keep thinking mine is on its way back but then it seems to change its mind. What kind of business are you planning?

Showofhands hey there!

Gilly the beach is the best place here for breeze at the mo. Enjoy the Festival, we shall miss it!!

Hey Iamamummy great to see you, let?s hope you are right and we can all stay calm this time!

Littlemiss26 ? yup, your story sounds the same as ours, welcome! LOL at the work motivating you to no 2! I am still on mat leave I always wanted 4 but at 34 I think I might not manage that

Hello Bluebell82 my DS has slept through since 10 weeks so I am really lucky too but he was really hard work before that!

Internet is so slow tonight; I wanted to read your profiles but had better go to bed as DS will be awake in a few hours!!

yup mrsmcj - definitely worth it - am loving (almost) every minute.

have started a wee kilt making business. did a kilt making course while i was on maternity leave, and am starting it up slowly. Will be advertising etc but most business for most kilt makers is by word of mouth, so starting slowly and building up a customer base who pass on my details will be a big part of it. Also making baby kilts - will need to post some pictures of them on my profile.

really must update that actually - mentioning the devil costume reminded me - that was last halloween so a little out of date now. ds will be 1 next Thursday iamamummy. Its a cliche - but the year has definitely flown.

we were going to start ttc this month, but some family have planned a trip to Eurodisney next march/april - and its not that i particularly want to go there, but i would like to go on the trip, so we decided to wait till next month (being very optimistic that it wont take long to ttc - only took a month really last time but that was just very lucky i think).
