Please explain temping to me!

Sorry-i'm very naive and need to know how to go about it -we're just starting to try for dc2, but as dd was a complete surprise (but amazing after the shock!) we have no idea about anything and i'm expecting that we could be trying for a very long time so I want to try to work out when I ovulate to increase our chances

Please can someone tell me what need and what do I have to do?
