advice needed from experts on OPKS!!

I did opk friday and got a very faint line. Saturday very faint( could barely see it) same yesterday and today. Anyone got any ideas why??! Or what it means?

increased levels of LH in urine, but this could be raised for a a few days before you get a +ve (line must be darker or as dark as control line). If you have plenty of tests, perhaps try testing later at night as well for a few days so as to ensure you don't miss the surge (as opposed to the rise IYSWIM)

Worth pointing out here that many people do not recommend OPK's as they are confusing and unreliable - you may never have high enough LH to show a +ve yet still be OVing.

Make sure you back up your tests with other signs like EWCM and cervical position.

phew thats 4 days of a faint line (today being day 14) does anyone know if AFTER you have ov do you get a faint line? As in it is dying down? Like gets fainter as you go past OV?

Using Clearblue - today is day 10 of 28. Had what I always presume are ov pains on Saturday and Sunday evenings and today cervix seems up and a bit softer, yet Clearblue (done at midday) said all 3 days were negative. Never been entirely sure about the mucus thing... I know i's supposed to look like eggwhie but more pointers would be very welcome! If this was you, what would you think? Ordered about 10 ebay tests so they should be delivered tomorrow or Weds - think I'll test twice a day once they turn up and prod dp into action as much as I can

hmm well i have no idea, i seem to be a bit dim when it comes to opks and actually the whole of conception (see old threads!!

ok guys. little help here please. Today yet AGAIN i have a faint line. What is going on?? Could i really just be having a 'rise' for this long?? I thought i had already OV....

As far as I understand it a faint line should be regarded as negative. Some ladies do get faint lines before and after ov, but some get faint lines their whole cycle almost. OPKs are hard to use in because you might miss the surge and the dark line!

It is better to use them in conjunction with other fertile indicators. Are you looking out for wet or EWCM mad4my? After ov your CM should become more dry or sticky. As teuch says if you are not sure if you have ov then bd every other day for a while longer.

well (sorry to be personal here) im pretty sure i had the cn 2 days ago.. but not alot of it. When i used the opk early in the month i didnt get any line whereas ive had a faint one since friday and am testing couple times a day!

Well, I have more CM than normal and cervix has disappeared upwards - whether CM is egg white-like, I cannot tell. My ebay sticks arrived today so as today I'm on day 11 for the rest of the week I will be collecting little pots of pee like nobody's business!! And I thought birth was undignified... I keep testing at or before midday so may try twice daily from now on - midday and night. Must remember to clear all the pots away after, however

When I used clearblue ovulation kits I always got a faint line until I detected the LH surge and then line went significantly darker. The way I saw it was that the faint line was the baseline level of LH in my wee and I had to look for a change from the baseline to know that the surge had happened. For me, the surge was very, very obvious. If I were you I would just keep going taking the tests and see if you spot a change. For me, the ovulation kits were very successful. I've had a 50% pregnancy success rate using them. It was only by using them that I realised I ovulated later than I thought.

i have just done another OPK and today the line is actually quite clear! Do you think i could be OV later than 'normal'?. As i have said, been off pill 4 months and i have come on 28,33,30,28. So depending when i come on this month the today is day. Opinions anyone??

If the line is significantly stronger than previous days, then I think you could safely assume that you have detected the LH surge.

i feel like a freak! I feel like i SHOULD know when im OV. I know i know im being silly! Anyone else OV past past day 14? If so what day?

Loads of people ov later than day 14! I think I ov yesterday on CD20 .

Day 14 is just usually given as an average day for ov based on a 28 day cycle, that's all. Opks detect the LH prior to ov so you may ov today or tomorrow.

I can't really help but I'm in a similar position.

Last month I got a really strong positive on day 11.

This month I am on CD 17 today and have STILL not got a positive OPK (and have been testing 2-3 times per day since day 9!!).

No idea what's going on - don't know if I've missed the surge, the OPK hasn't worked, I've not ovulated yet or I'm not going to ovulate at all this month!! I did have a bit of EWCM about 3 days ago (although very small amount).

Am getting very fed up with it!

Does anyone know if having EWCM means you will definitely ovulate or can you still have EWCM and not ovulate?

eleveld I'm no expert but missing the surge is v easy apparently, also lots of people find opks simply don't work for them and they know this for certain because they get a BFP after not getting a positive opk .

Having EWCM does not mean that you have ov for certain but neither does a positive opk guarentee ov either, it just indicates an LH surge that CAN lead to ov which is why some people think opks are a waste of time.

If you have been bd'ing regularly (every other day or so) then you will have done it at the right time anyway. If you are unsure then keep bd'ing.

leveld. i had the cm at the w/e but only a bit and my opk is stronger today therfore the 2 dont really tie up in my cast. Not really sure which one to go by...

I had an ultrasound scan yesterday for endo check up. He said it showed I wasn't pregnant (but then again given where I am in my cycle, if I have ovulatd it would only have been couple of days ago so nothing would show up yet anyway).

The endo cyst I have is still there on my right ovary.

On the left ovary he said there is what he called a 'follicular cyst' and he said this is what will shortly burst releasing the egg (bear in mind this was just the radiologist telling me this, I don't see the actual consultant until next week).

However, what I have read on the internet about follicular cysts says that these happen when the follicle DOESN'T burst and release the egg ie you don't ovulate that month.

Do you know anything about this?

same here mad4mybaby! - I had it at the weekend and still not got OPK. From what everyone has said I'm becoming less trusting of OPKs - it seems it's really easy to miss the surge.

I think I'll just try and get another couple of BDs in in next few days and then have a rest! (as that will take me up to day 20 and I never realy have cycles longer than 28-30 days)

I'm afraid not eleveld. If you had the scan a couple of days ago when you had the EWCM then that does fit in. Perhaps the radiologist just got his terms mixed up? I don't know! Hope the consulant is more helpful.

ok, so last night i had a positive OPK!! First one ive seen! So spent the night busy bding! I feel very peridy today.. might be though that today is cd18 so theroretically could be pms?! Still exciting though trying not to get TOO excited!
