Oh, somebody just slap me.

Am a regular, but have name-changed as I am weird about pregnancy, and want to continue normal conversations on here as my alter ego. Period due today, we have been ttc, on my own, baby asleep. Dug out a test I'd been about to take last month (10 days late!), unwrapped, but then discovered I'd started my period.

I promised myself because of last month I'd wait at least a week. But I bloody didn't, and got the faintest of faint lines, so faint it could have been a trick of the light or something in my eye, so now I STILL don't bloody know if I'm pregnant, can't go and get another test, DH is away this evening, oh fuck. I just WANT to be pregnant. Why did I not just wait? I was going to post here so you could all tell me not to test, but instead went upstairs to check the calendar, and then was near the bathroom, and so the deed was done.

Why didn't you stop me? Eh?

.

I've done the discovering my af has arrived as going to do a test too...

now repeat after me...

I shall not keep tests in the house, then I won't have the urge to take them

there have been a few threads like this recently. it seems that evaporation lines do exist, and if you have to squint to see it, or hold it up to the light, or take the test apart, then it may not be a real line.

I know what it's like to hope!

Wait two days and then test again.

And do a digital. Expensive but no staring at that sodding line or not.

I know how you feel I got some tests when we were ttc ds and I did one 3 days after bd despite knowing it would be bfn!!
Fingers crossed for you

Take the test apart! Didn't know that was even possible. Anyway, it's in the bin now. For the third time.

Thanks for the slap, wannabe. They shouldn't sell tests in packs of two. It's just wrong.

Thanks all, by the way. Will try and hold off until the weekend, I think. Can't really get to the shops for the next couple of days, so maybe I'll have the cheap answer by then. If not, I'll take your advice, Sydney.

I think the manufacturers of pregnancy tests play on peoples' desparation. It's quite common now to read "is accurate 4 days before your period is due" so of course people are going to latch on to that and part with their cash and test in the hope that they will get that bfp. what the manufacturers don't tell you is that the tests are only actually about 60% accurate 4 days before your period is due so for 40% of people that test there will be disappointment, or that hope of "maybe I tested too early and need to go out and buy another 10 tests to do every day until I get a bfp".

Agree totally, wannabe. I think that's why I'm especially annoyed with myself - when we were trying for my daughter, I was several days late twice running, and so know not to test too early. I was at least two weeks late when I tested for her. It was having that bloody test in the house, like you said. Think I'll get DH to keep spares in work from now on!

If it gives you any hope (which I sincerely hope isn't false) I had a light AF when preg with DS2 (in fact it was so light/short that I did a test and hey presto).

I think evaporation lines only come after the 10 mins (which is why they tell you to discard the test after that time). If it came straight away you could have a chance.

What an awful situation to be in [sorry]

I agree with willmouse re evap lines. If it came up straight away then they cannot be evap lines.

Are you two psychic?! Took test today and it was very very positive! So here we are - feeling twitchy - pleased, nervous, etc. I don't think it's sunk in. I promise I'll unmask when I've had a chance to speak to hospital and arrange care - we're high risk, so need scans, etc to feel more at ease. Thank you for thinking of me!

Updating unmasked. Pretty sure I'm miscarrying - heartbeat missing from scan yesterday, and started to bleed just now. So fed up I can't tell you.
