Anyone else got this with their AF

I'm TTC again soon, had to interrupt for wedding, but something's bothering me a bit.
My AF has been a bit strange the last few months. It used to be normal to have a few 'warning days' i.e. a brownish discharge before the proper AF arrived.
The last few months I seem to have a gush, so I think hey it's started and then it stops and becomes brownish for about 4-5 days and then restarts. During the first bit my boobs continue to hurt and so now I'm really confused as to when to count day 1 from. When it restarts and boobs stop hurting or from the first gush? Anyone else out there with a similar sort of pattern?

Not exactly the same but when I was ttc I got AF lasting about 15 days, sometimes spotting and sometimes normal, then I would think it was over and it would start again. I think it was just the stress of ttc.
