TTC and Flying - anyone know about this?

I'm not thinking of trying to conceive on a aeroplane!

I'm currently TTC, and I think I'll be ovulating in a couple of weeks. A week after ovulating, I'm due to fly to France for a weekend (about an hour each way). Does anyone know if flying at this stage will jeopardise my chances of conceiving?

I read lots about flying in early pregnancy, with mixed responses. The general consensus is that it's OK, but there are a few people who say they've miscarried after flying. But there is no information on flying before pregnancy is actually confirmed.

Any thoughts?

I think TBH (but I am no expert so may well be talking crap) having been through a miscarriage recently myself, people tend to to look back over the time they would have been pregnant, looking for any tiny little thing to blame the MC on. I know I certainly did/do.

People fly all the time and if it happened that you flew then MC'ed you are obviously going to blame that.

I also think that as obsessed with TTC we become (believe me, I have been there, twice, and am just about getting there at the moment!), you can't put your whole life on hold for it.

A miscarriage happens because the baby isn't viable, and there are 100's of reasons as to why that be. You could put a flight off and still miscarry, as sad as it is.

I, personally, would fly, especially before any possible pregnany had been confirmed.

Flying doesn't jeapordise the chance of conceiving if you've already ovulated. The stress of travelling or jet-lag (not in your case) can delay ovulation.

If you do get lucky this cycle then a weekend in France isn't going to harm anyone...it'll be too soon to do a test anyway so might as well enjoy yourself and save worrying until you really need to.

Good luck!

Rachel been thinking exactly this myself as we are booked to go to Malta for Valentines and came to the same conclusions as NatalieJane and DG. A short haul flight is low risk and I'm not cancelling everything because of ttc, so I'm going ahead with our holiday.

Quite right Anniemac

Didn't want to put my life on hold when ttc, promised ourselves a beautiful holiday if no BFP by Christmas, hence DH & I going on a 12 hour flight this Sat (will be 5+2, fingers crossed). The only thing we changed is making sure there's no malaria at our destination. The doctor hasn't said we need to cancel.

Have a lovely time Claire and Rachel!
