I was just thinking of going back to the gym where I like to go for a run on the treadmill and do lots of other cardio workouts to lose this extra weight I've gained over xmas.

How risky is it to do this while TTC? Obviously I don't want to do anything to reduce my chances. Do I just carry on as normal?

I've been off the pill for 5 months now and if there's any chance of a possible conception this month already I don't wanna risk anything but I wanna get on with my life as normal so I don't obsess too much iyswim

hi fruitloop. I don't have any medical background but I've always exercised regularly when TTC and pg. And I'd guess that if your body is used to it it probably won't make a jot of difference to TTC. I think dieting would be bad, but being sensibly active and keeping your blood pumping and endorphins up can only be a good thing. As long as you are sensible and don't start trying to compete with Paula Radcliffe I'm sure it will be fine .

I guess just don't over exert yourself is the best thing to do. You can put your life on hold for ttc, so my advice (which isn't necessarily the best advice) is to carry on as normal until you know you are pregnant. Like Meglet said, just don't try to compete with PaulaRadcliffe

When I joined the gym when we moved I asked this of the instructor - he said to carry on as normal and that getting fit/fitter can only be a good thing for your body.
Yoga, swimming and other 'gentle' activities are great to carry on right through pg too. Two people I know from my yoga class who did yoga before and during pg both had nice easy labours (both 1st timers too) and both put it down to the yoga, so there's an incentive for you

ah thanks guys,

I was just a little worried cos I'm convinced I had an early MC a few years ago while out running through the park (might just've been an extremely heavy and long AF). Was probably nothing to do with the run and gonna happen anyway if it was a MC.

It would be a shame to waste all that money I'm paying for membership!

I'm sure you know your own limits Fruitloop, so as long as you don't overdo it, then you should carry on. Sorry to hear about your possible early miscarriage I would imagine all the emotion of that is hard to overcome, and making you fearful of it happening again. But you have to live your life, that's all I know after putting lots of things on hold for the last 16 months, with nothing to show for it... enjoy life, and if that means running, then run Good luck

If you're training at a gym why don't you just ask the instructors? When I did the guy was really nice and sad that everything was ok. I'm a bit wary of using the jacuzzi at the spa bit of the gym as I know you're not meant to use it when pg as extreme heat is not good - but other than that I use everything as normal. The instructor did say that when I got pg to tell him and he'd help me work out a training programme for during pregnancy too.
